I can't see us signing anyone longer than 2 years in this FA class

Whilst I agree, would make for good viewing, pairing Barbashev with Bedard!

Only thing is, I'm not sure there are any guys worth adding that would sign for less than 3 or 4 years. Otherwise, I do agree that it would be ideal for CHI's rebuild to not sign anyone over 2 years, though.

I dont think there's anyone in this class in general that's worth signing for more than 4 years other than Bertuzzi

I get the allure, because he is an intriguing hockey player, but that'd be a big hell no from me. haha. Would not want Bertuzzi at all. We don't need anti-vax rhetoric in the locker room with a young and developing team. I'm already uneasy enough having Jones pro-Trump dog crap in there. Although, Jones comments were made during Trumps initial Campaign and I don't think he is too vocal about that stuff anymore. When you are trying to build a socially conscious culture and mold young men into professionals, in the wake of the Sexual Assault investigation coming to light, that sort of backwards stuff can throw everything off and "poison the well", so to speak. Something like that could set CHI back another decade or longer.

Oh, ok. Gotcha. Yeah. There definitely isn't a whole lot available. It's a pretty thin UFA class. I might consider Barbashev, Bunting, Compher, or Domi with some term, though. Maybe even Killorn, he seems like he could still play at a high level for at least another 4 years.

Edit: And most of those players shouldn't really expect much more than what Zacha got from BOS.

You can find those type of players in every FA class though. There's no reason to overpay for one just for the sake of locking them up, because chances are their contracts are going to age horribly. For a team in contention, that's fine because you need to capitalize on your window. For us? If their contract ages horribly, thats right in the middle of when we should be contending. We can't afford that. If you want one of those guys, lets wait until next year and just sign someone like Stephenson, Martinook, or Foegele. Its the exact same player model. No need to be signing those guys too early for too long

Martinook or Foegele? Domi, Barb, Bunt, Compher, and Killorn are much more desirable players than them. Regardless, what separates Bertuzzi from that same logic? IMO, nothing. He is in the same age group, with relatively the same production rate, with just as much of a chance of his next contract not aging well.

I'm not saying we should sign any of them, either. I was just saying, if we were looking into the UFA market, I would look at them before Bertuzzi any day of the week.
