Comments from Craig Button scared me a little. He said the market for a 5’7 winger is very small no matter how good of a scorer he is. Dorion is in a tough spot. They gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd and the best thing they could do is probably hold on to him till the deadline on a 1 year deal, hope he has a career year and get similar to that return from a contender (late 1st, 2nd, 3rd).

Idk how knowledgeable he is but that doesn’t sound promising

I heard the same and heard that Detroit is perfect fit for him. Button likes ABD to Detroit, but he said prospects and picks really, so I wonder what Steve and Pierre are discussing

I wouldn’t be mad if they got 17 + 2nd for him and flipped those assets for Konecny or Hart or someone like that

It's definitely tough. Cat is very talented but the contract situation and his stature (as well as a relative down year which brings into question his ability away from Kane) hurt his value.

This offer is super interesting because it keeps both firsts open for Detroit to do something crazy like go for Keller or trade up if they want to. I'd hate to lose Kuba and Berggren in one trade, but it might be worthwhile

Personally I rather konecny too, he plays the style wings need, but if it was 17 + van 2nd, can't really be upset over it, it's pretty close to what you paid last year in terms of draft talent. Korchiski vs say Barlow/willander/Danielson/Honzek.

Oh Craig Button said this?
Yeah that means we're not giving enough, he blows.

However Chris Johnston said that there’s interest from the teams that he has on his list and that ottawa would be looking into a sign and trade with one of these teams which should give them good value back.

Teams are Nashville, Vegas, Florida, Detroit and Dallas. It might be a bigger list tho but those are some of the teams. I could def see Florida trying to pull off a move. Cat with Bennett and Tkachuk could be quite good and they’d cover for his lack in size

Depends; I only think NSH and DAL have the pieces to compete with Detroit.

fackkkk... I REALLY don't want to trade Bergy, but I think Detroit would have to accept that...

I guess that's the key to a good trade right? It has to hurt a little?

Not sure on their pieces; none of them really excite me. I think you'd probably get the best trade from DAL; may be less than what Detroit can give, but at least it's not intradivisional.

Button is typically pretty clued in. He's the most accurate mock drafter over the last 5 years, even passing Bob McKenzie, and that's because of his front office connections. With the ownership situation seemingly coming to an end (though, not anytime soon really), OTT will have a decision on trying to squeeze out 1 year (and making the playoffs this season), or getting as much value as they can for Debrincat before the draft. If he's not traded at the draft, he probably won't be traded until the TDL.

Staying in OTT would be bad for Debrincat, unless his numbers shoot way up in his 2nd season. If he has another 60point season, he'll probably kiss $8m/year goodbye on the UFA market.

The deal listed is probably what Steve would want to get Debrincat, I can't see him going much further (definitely not including a 1st rounder). Losing Berggren wouldn't be great for DET, but he'd be "replaced" by Debrincat. Kubalik would be a short term replacement for Debrincat in OTT, and a flippable asset if they aren't in position for the playoffs.
