doubt they move saros.

Id be shocked if pesce is moved but cant help think the actual deal will be way less because it will be without a contract. Cant give up Rosen and a 24 1st for a guy who is a year away from FA

I dont thik the Sabres trade for him unless they know he will sign and extension. They are not ready to make a run yet so they will want to make sure they will have him for a while.

I think Nashville pulls the trigger on that deal though, especially in this draft. That's a borderline overpay by BUF.

It will take at least another 1st or 2nd or another high prospect to get saros.

I'd much rather the canes do everything they can to keep Pesce, but if they can't get an extention done, this isn't a bad offer.

I doubt another 1st, but a second or a prospect not named Savoie, Kulich or Levi would be fine.

I would take that saros deal because I’m in the rebuild side of the fence. And this gives Nashville 2 good pieces towards that. Is ostlund a true center?

At his age group, yes. But who knows at the NHL level.

Sort of an awkward one because you could get him to agree to a deal with carolina before the trade but...then why would carolina deal him? Its not a situation like severson or Dubois. THeres mutual interest in staying. He only gets dealt if theres a total breakdown and in that scenario I doubt there's any sort of pre extension talks with the acquiring team.

Maybe but thats not a franchise that willingly goes through tear downs. Otherwise they wouldve torn it down to the studs at the deadline for a high pick in a stacked top 10 like this year.

Carolina doesn't really like handing out big contracts, could be that they are not willing to go as high and as long as other teams.

Thats the other issue what number gets carolina to walk away, and why are the sabres going to give that number to pesce to be their 3rd best d-man?

Yea I get a lot of young center prospect usually turn to wing in the nhl just really haven’t paid to much attention to him and know if he’ll cut it as a nhl center. Getting him and taking the 13th plus one of our picks to trade up and get Moore would go along way to getting the center depth we’re lacking. Trotz said this team is probably gonna take a step back before it moves forward. Trading saros would definitely be that step back. I people don’t value goalies as they should but with buffalos talent at forward and defense getting a elite goalie like saros would make them a true contender

Buffalo needs good vets, they also need stability in their D core. Pesce brings both so he is probably worth more to the Sabres than he is to the Canes.

if Dahlin is getting 10 and power is getting 8 thats over 22 million for 3 defenders already. How much more can they really afford to shell out and pay for all the other stuff? 4 mil, 5? There's no way they can give pesce 7.

Whole point in having Power and Dahlin is to avoid that exact situation.

You do of course realize Waddell is a puppet for Tulsky, right? And he's not bleeding anyone for a guy 1 year away from UFA.

There is some room there because Cozens, Thompson, and Samuelsson are all tied up long-term on below market deals. The Sabres also have players like Kulich, Johnson, and Savoie coming through the pipeline who will be on ELCs for a while. It will really depend on if Quinn and/or Peterka have break out years next season and they will need to sign them to a high dollar contract.

Not just them. Mittelstadt had a strong year too. Krebs might be in line for a breakout with a bigger offensive role.

And then there's the goaltending. Even if they dont add someone, Levi is going to get a massive extension the first chance they can do it. Between all that, and the regional sports network bankruptcy stagnating the cap a bit, there isnt actually all that much money available. And thats even before considering what the Pegula's may or may not be willing to spend.

I don't see Krebs having a season so crazy that he would get a contract worth more than $3-4 AAV. Mitts is interesting, on the Sabres he is capped out as a 3C so I don't know if they would be willing to commit to him more than maybe $5 mil AAV. So I don't really see either getting a long-term big money deal after this season.

With Levi, goalies are too unpredictable, especially 20 year old goalies. Unless Levi absolutely lights the world on fire the next 2 years I think he signs a bridge deal in 2025.

Thats still an additional 8 mil for those two skaters. And you know Adams doesnt do bridge deals for core players
