The Penguins get a middle six guy with a good amount of promise. When Yegor is good, he's got a sick shot. But he's a guy that can get his confidence shot being in and out of the lineup. He's perfect for the Penguins where he can be a cheap option and play above his salary when he's given a chance. He's not a lock, but he's not as trash as he was for the Devils to finish the year. He's just been pushed by guys who fit bottom six systems better as he couldn't earn a top 6 spot. Getting Graves to an extension with the other pick, and Devils throw in some late picks just making it more of a swap. Plus it's two years down the road so it has less immediate impact.

Edmonton drops a cap hit they struggle with cap space. Right now with $5m with 5 players short of a full roster is tight. Foegele is just a new Wood replacement that can bang and at worst is expiring. It's better than playing anyone term to be there. I'm not sold the Devils have a guy that can be a "4th liner" and do what that McLeod-Bastian line should be doing in games.

WPG gets a cheaper, young, 3RHD that is ready to make the leap. It seems WPG is in all kinds of trouble where so many want out, so buying into throwing in youth with something to prove. Walsh had a really solid AHL season. Boqvist showed points in the season he was a nice 3C. He's a 3rd liner that can fill in on a 2nd line in short bursts for a shallower team. WPG has guys who are very good for the top 6, but if WPG gets worse they at least have a warm body with some potential.

For some that would say it's too much for DeMelo, I'm avoiding paying similar prices at the deadline but get him for a full season. For WPG fans saying it is too little, do you really expect much more than a 2nd rounder for him at this point at the deadline? At least this way you have players you can throw in your lineup immediately and go for a culture change.

All of this leaves the team with still plenty of cap room that they can grow in value by the deadline for another move if it kicks them into the next gear to upgrade likely on Foote.
