The Ducks have a long history of not drafting Russians, dating back to the 2002 draft they've only taken 4 Russians:
Igor Bobkov, G, 2009 3rd round
Artyom Galimov, LW, 2020 5th Round
Pavel Mintyukov, LD, 2022 1st Round
Vyacheslav Buteyets, G, 2022 6th Round

They arent trading down for Michkov, I'd be shocked if he was even on their draft board.

The "report" or whatever you want to call it said the Habs asked what the cost is, not that the Ducks are even entertaining moving the pick, Verbeek was interviewed about a week or so ago and said he already knows who hes taking at 2

People are so dumb with the moving up trades
Of course Kent Hughes at least called once to know if a team was welling to trade down, it's his job as GM to at least call once ...

Tbf the no Russians was mostly a GMBM thing, until Galimov (which was such a weird pick) but I do agree there's next to zero chance they trade down, unless they're getting 5+Caufield+

I'm sure at least 10 teams have called every team in the top 5 once haha, not sure why this one is getting so much traction on here

a 20+ year track record is more than just GMBM, im sure he had a part in it but this would have started in the Brian Burke era, I think GMBM was a scout at the time I forget where. I honestly think Martin Madden (current AGM, was director of Amateur scouting from 2008-2020) is more the reason since he's came on board, heres a quote from him when asked why he hasnt taken many russians: (From a few years ago, I think 2020)

"I think the overwhelming story out there over the last 10 years was the signability risk of the Russian players. But for us, I think it’s more to do with the fact that in the 2000s — especially late 2000s — there were many really good-looking 17-year-old Russian kids drafted in the late first, early second that didn’t pan out. Add the signability issue, we probably underrated a few — not underrated, but under-ranked a few – just to be on the safe side."

If that doesnt scream " We arent taking Michkov" idk what does

That is true with MM, he's been here for ages, and of the Russians taken recently, Minty was already in NA, and the other 2 were OAs, not sure if the latter means anything but they still haven't taken a guy in his DY out of Russia in ages
