Gotcha haha, the way I looked at it was: goalie market is thin and since Kunin had 1 year left on his deal, I honestly almost value him as a cap dump for SJ. 2.75M for a guy that had like 15 pts last season. Just don't think Kunin is where he should be. Expected more out of him tbh. But understand if thats alot to pay haha.
The Karlsson trade just isn't enough, and that's before you take into account paying for the retention. If that's the return for an elite player we should just keep him. Its not like we need the cap space.
Blackwood hasn't put together a solid season in a few years. Was he better than Kahkonen and Reimer last year? Yes, pretty much everyone was, and Blackwood wasn't playing on the 4th worst team in the league either. Sharks need to pursue a long term goaltending solution, but for next year I think they are fine going with Kahkonen and Makiniemi. The higher priority is icing a team defense that actually gives them a chance to succeed.
Kunin is a solid bottom six player who kills penalties and chips in a bit of offense now and then. He got hurt last year just as he was starting to really settle in, but he was still on pace for 34 pts and 13-14 goals. The idea of him being a cap dump is strange because the Sharks don't actually need cap space right now.
Henry Thrun is one of the top LD prospects in the Sharks system and we just traded a 3rd round pick for him less than two months ago.
Sharks are very unlikely to be spending picks on assets at this point. Blackwood is young which is a plus, but if even just a 3rd is the price for him I say we just stick with what we've got in the system and keep drafting goalies.
