Two of those spots will be filled by Connor McMichael and Alexei Protas for a total of ~1.6M, and there's other cheap depth players in Hershey they can call up to be the healthy scratches. Not to mention, if the Caps move Mantha they now have 13M in cap space for 6 roster spots (really 11.4M for 4, since McM and Protas are givens). There's also the possibility they trade Kuznetsov and his 7.8M cap hit this summer. The Caps' cap situation isn't dire.

Oh I don't disagree, I personally try to look a bit deeper, but looking into all the stats I can find (ie GAR, RAPM, QoC/QoT, etc), which is why I think it's important for me to defend Vladar. At the end of the day fans aren't scouts and fans don't easily have access to loads of game footage either. If Calgary didn't have Dustin Wolf and weren't in a cap crunch Vladar would absolutely not be available though

Totally agree man. No goaltender is going to look good in San Jose with our current defense core. I see upside in Vladar but only as much as I see in Kaapo.

I don't see SJ as a buyer for him personally. IMO it just pushes the rock down the road a bit more since both him and Kaapo are UFA's at the end of their deals. However I do think they could make a pretty decent tandem if SJ wasn't so far off competing

Sharks would do best just to give Makiniemi a shot while waiting for Chrona to develop. I will watch Calgary from afar and just be obscenely jealous of Dustin Wolf (Who grew up a Sharks fan) and Matthew Coronato.
