Some might be fine with Vladar, but to me, there is zero value in trading for a 2nd (maybe 3rd) tier goalie. There are at least 5 equal or better options available in FA. If the Wings traded for Vladar, I wouldn't be up in arms, but he's a very meh option to me.

Goalie market sucks. Hill will likely get a Jack Campbell contract from a dumb GM. Vladar is one of many options. I certainly won't be devastated if we lose those sweepstakes.

Hill has definitely played himself into a stupid contract. Still, on a 2 year deal, I'd be all for Varly, and then 2-3 year deal range - Raanta, Freddy Anderson or Brossoit would all be preferred targets to me, over Vladar.

Vladar is younger and still might turn into more, but it's all about fit. We just need someone who can spell Husso enough and be consistent for 2-3 years to keep the seat warm for Cossa, we don't need another Ned gamble...

All 5 of those FA targets I listed can do that. Anderson is probably the riskiest with some of the injury concerns recently. Honestly, my top choice is probably Varlamov.

Varly apparently wants to stay on the Island. I don't know if the Canes want Freddy back. He'd have to take a paycut. But surely he could stay healthy enough for 25-30 games. He might have some added motivation when playing against Toronto.
