Miller will 100% get more than 21st overall and a 3rd rounder two years from now--- IF he's traded.

I’m not sure how Severson, a UFA and seasoned veteran, and Miller, a RFA, correlate. This was Severson’s big UFA payday meanwhile Miller hasn’t even hit his prime yet.

Mcavoy got 5mill+ coming off his ELC. Rangers can not afford more $ tied up in the back end of the lineup. Igor massive contract coming in 2 years.
Not to mention, igor bailed this defense out 2 years in a row in playoffs.

Offer sheets do not generally happen... there have only been 2 in the last 10 years and one of them was "revenge" for the other. Only 2 haven't been matched in the last 25 years, one being the "revenge" and the other being a gross overpayment.

If you actually took a look at the teams that have the necessary compensation, their cap situations, their pending RFAs, you will notice the majority of teams do not have the capability to make the offer sheet.

So here are the teams that have the necessary picks for a 1st+3rd being the return (you'll notice Minnesota is not here)

Anaheim has to sign Zegras, Terry, Drysdale to worry about and also won't really be competing this year. They'd be hesitant to give up an unprotected 1st.
Arizona is not giving up its' 1st rounders anytime soon.
Buffalo is a team that could afford this, but they have Dahlin, Power, Middlestadt and Krebs all up as RFAs next year. Kinda locked up at LHD with Power/Dahlin too
Calgary doesn't have the cap space.
Carolina has Aho, Necas, Jarvis, Skjei, Pesce, Chatfield, and Suzuki all up next year.
Chicago is not giving up its' 1st rounders anytime soon.
Dallas does not have the cap space with the players they need to resign this year.
Detroit could but does have both Seider and Raymond up next year. Also wouldn't expect them to take a big step forward so they most likely wouldn't want to give up an unprotected 1st.
Montreal does not have the cap space long term.
Nashville is in a retool state and is unlikely to give up a potential early pick, plus most of their roster is up after this year.
Devils have 8 RFAs of their own this year, and Mercer next year. Unlikely. They are also pretty set at LHD.
Philadelphia is not giving up its' 1st rounders anytime soon.
Seattle doesn't have the cap space after they sign their own RFAs
St Louis already has a ton of money in their defense, unlikely they spend any more + give up draft capital.
Vancouver has negative projected cap space.
Washington is a mixed bag as they barely have enough cap space for the deal + are heading towards a rebuild.
Winnipeg may or may not have the cap space depending on PLD and the other RFAs they have.

Getting the Severson deal, 6.25m*8 years=50m would actually result in the compensation being 2 1st round picks, 2nd and 3rd as compensation is calculated FYI.

I'd love Miller but I don't think we'd be able to make the necessary cap maneuvers to sign him. As others have said he's worth a lot more than this.

There is only one team I'm even remotely scared of (Detroit) and I do not see them putting the offer sheet in. Keep in mind Severson also plays the higher needed position at RHD

If the reason you are trading him is due to a high cap hit coming, then Minnesota is the worst trade partner in the league.

St. Louis absolutely might take a swing at Miller, and they're absolutely willing to spend their draft capital to address a need. All they've talked about since the trade deadline is how they're itching to move a few of their firsts. I also think they know the defense isn't good enough and they don't have a problem spending money in order to fix it, even if that means they have a ton of money disproportionately allocated to their defense. And frankly I wouldn't be surprised if one of their defenseman is on the move anyway.

It's possible but Miller has to want to sign an offersheet as well. Is he going to want to sign a long term contract like Severson or is he going to have his eye on the cap in two years and do what Gavrikov is doing? Given he's still young and has more to grow, he should want to sign a bridge and then cash in in a couple years when he has more negotiating power/potentially longer record of high play and when he's living under a higher salary cap. And if he wants to sign a bridge deal, that makes things a lot easier for New York. If I'm Drury that's the line I'm selling his agent.

Bridge deal would be good but i think his agent is going off of mcavoy deal after his ELC. Theres clearly high hopes for miller but rangers cant have 12-13 million tied up in 2nd pair d

I wouldn't call it chemistry, could play with them. Lets just say what it really was. But 4 M, why would he signed that? Especially since both Kane and he knows the truth about this team now.

As a Detroit fan, I would love to acquire Miller. However, we likely have our T4 LD set with some combination of Walman/Edvinsson/Wallinder/Johansson. If K'Andre could play RD though.... (or if Ed partnered with him on the right side)
