I mean, they only have 2 NHL LHD on the roster for next season, 1 of them is only signed for one more year, and none of their top prospects are LHDs. Fensore is their best option but he's 5'7" and most likely not an NHL option.. Jones would immediately be their top LHD prospect.

Any reasoning? Drury requested a trade

there is at least one team that would take him for that price. Especially since his buyout gives money the next two years (albeit a small amount) but with the minor cap increase next year every little bit matters. NYR could also just buy them out themselves.

we want a NHL LHD though. Jones wouldnt play much for us. He is the lefty version of Coghlan but smaller.

I think you'll need to give up a 4th and jones just to start a convo on Drury, and with goody you will need to give up pick rather than get a pick.

Drury requested a trade, it's not like his value has taken off from insane development or production. Jones and him are pretty even, I added the pick coming from Carolina due to the trade request.

In terms of Goodrow, his buyout actually gives additional cap the next two years. Someone will pay for that-- his long term buyout is only bad year 4 so I could see teams either using him for what he's good with or using his buyout to gain cap space.

gaining 200,000 is nothing, the team to take him either needs his services or is trying to reach the cap floor and wants a locker room leader. jones has no NHL success so he is def below Drury. Drury fits what the rangers want/need so they will need to bid higher to get him

I may be in the minority of Sabres fans, but I'd have interest in Goodrow. It would depend on what happens with Gus though. If Gus decides to test the market and go elsewhere, Goodrow would be a solid replacement for him and his role on the team. His cap hits a bit higher than you'd like, but I think he'd be a good fit with Krebs and Okposo. Cap wise it shouldn't be too difficult to manage it longer term as they likely bridge some guys like Krebs until the Skinner contract is done, along with the projected cap jumps in the coming years. The forward group could use a couple of guys who play with an edge, they won't get by with skill alone. You'd hope some of them develop a bit of that like Krebs seems to be doing, but for many it's unlikely.

Sabres already have replacements for girgensons. The only way a team takes on the goodrow contract is if they are paid heavily to do so

Who are the Girgensons replacements? He plays a heavy defensive role for the team. Guys like Kulich and Savoie aren't suited for that role, and others like Rousek, Weissbach, and Biro really aren't either, and are more along the lines of a Hino replacement. Replacing a guy who takes most of the defensive responsibilities with a rookie also presents numerous other issues.

Eventually you hope to see Kozak, Cederqvist and a Nadeau fill those types of roles but none of them are ready for that yet.

Rousek and Murray are more than capable and cheaper. Adding another forward (especially an expensive 4th liner) blocks others from being promoted

Granato didn't trust players like Peterka, Quinn, and early on even Krebs late in games to try and hold leads. You think Rousek or Murray will be different? They have minimal NHL experience, but are going to start carrying a big part of the defensive load for a team hoping to make the playoffs?

AHL success does not guarantee NHL success. You still need a few vets to continue guiding the youth, and personally I'd rather have a multiple cup winning vet with a ton of playoff experience teaching the youth on this roster what it takes to win. If and when injuries occur, absolutely get Rousek and Murray into the line-up, but neither have earned a guaranteed roster spot. If you constantly worry about "blocking youth" you'll never succeed because there will always be new shiny toys trying to make the NHL.

No one is paying draft capital to pay Goodrow real dollars to get 200K cap savings for 2 years, while also getting hit with a 1.4 (can’t remember exactly) number for 4 years after that. That’s just silly.

If it was Drury for Jones, the Rangers would likely be the team adding a pick not the Canes.

I mean, we just saw tampa pay a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and Cal Foote for a bottom six forward that was scratched in the playoffs...

Go to the cap projections for each team.
Vancouver is currently over the projected cap and need to sign an additional defenseman and goalie to get to 20.
Tampa has 450k in cap and needs to sign two more forwards and a goalie to get to 20.
Montreal has less than 1m and needs 2 more forwards to get to 20.
Calgary has 1.25m available and needs two more forwards to get to 20.

Yeah there can be some work out via LTIR, etc. but don't discount 200k in cap space.

I mean, an owner would have to pay 10M in actual salary to buy him out for 200k. For 2 years. I will discount it as it’s an insane idea to trade actual assets to buy him out.
