Massive overpayment for Karlsson based upon age. That trade can likely be made for Brodie and a 1st rounder and maybe a minor piece. Otherwise Nylander straight up.

Nylander and Bostons first will work with that retention

On top of it being a massive overpay and massive risk (injury, age, etc) Karlsson does not seem to fit Tre’s preference for dmen . File this under no chance

Brodie is of almost zero interested to San Jose. He's 33 years old and will be a UFA in a year. If we trade Karlsson it won't be to move cap or get out from under his contract, it will be to bring in pieces that actually help us build for the future. There are worse scenarios than keeping a 100pt defensemen. If TJ Brodie gets traded to SJ it will be to help TOR free up cap space, and we'll expect to be paid for that. Better for you guys to find someone who needs a short term RD solution and will actually be willing to pay his value.

Nylander would be great if we could be confident of an extension, but I doubt that's realistic to put it mildly. If we really want him, and there isn't an extension in place before the trade, then we just wait a year and try our luck then. There isn't really anything the Sharks could do in the next year to keep him from testing the waters come free agency. Maybe we move him at the deadline, but that's a risk too and most other teams will also just prefer to wait until he's a free agent.

Yeah I changed my mind. Honestly moving Karlsson or Hertl makes little sense right now unless the return is entirely futures based which is unlikely with cap constraints.

I hear you but Karlsson is also 33 and giving up a 26 year old winger and a 1st round pick seems like a heavy. I would think younger players/picks then have the Leafs deal Brodie somewhere else.

Treliving wants to play a heavy game. He wants to be better in front of the net. He believes you need to “check” to be successful in today’s NHL. Karlsson is the opposite of all that.
