We've seen it time and time again, and still we get fooled every time. Local boy says he wants to come home, creates a media frenzy and then decides to sign in New York or LA leveraging the Habs media to barter a better deal at a major metropolitan contender in the US.

I don't blame him. It's a strategy that is tried, tested, and true. Works like a charm, every time.

PLD was never going to limit himself to 1 team. Why would he? If he can go to a team that he feels is a PLD away from winning a Stanley Cup, why would he take less money to come to a rebuilding team?

It's nothing against PLD either. He's not owned by CBJ, WPG, or MTL. He is free to go wherever he wants. More importantly, he's shown himself to be the type of player/person who stands apart from the team as opposed to being a guy who brings a team together. Nothing wrong with that either, but it's not a preferred character trait for a player you sign for 8 years.

I think he will end up signing a deal for 9M over 3-5 years with a team that made the playoffs last year, leaving him in perfect form to get an even bigger payday in 2027-28!

This young man is all about the cash and the prestige... and that's ok!
