OEL is a defensive disaster. Id rather have 3 years of McD at 6.75 than 4 years of OEL at 6.5.

No they don’t. Cannot eat that that much cap with being already over the cap. Saving 1 year on OEL is one thing but McDonough is another dump with the 2nd not worth it.

VAN saves cap overall, but using all their retention slots (especially on rather insignificant amounts in OEL and Toffoli's cases) hinders them from making other sell-off moves. And the upgrade from OEL to McDonagh doesn't change that they're still a lottery team.

SEA isn't ever paying a 1st and a 2nd for Johansen, even if his cap hit is only $2M.

NSH downgrades their roster, and gets saddled with the worst contract in this fiasco. The only good thing out of this for them is the improbable 1st, that SEA never parts with for what they're getting.

I'm not saying I'd accept or that it's even a good deal.
But Canucks management 100% take that deal every day of the week.
