Other than Lindholm being a elite 200 ft center with Selke nominations
Andersson being lightyears better, younger, cheaper than Weegar
Coronato being a midseason top 25 prospect, Schwindt being off the board
And the pick being in 2025 not 16th in the deepest draft in years, yeah sure maybe you're close then.

The comparable to the Tkachuk trade is not remotely close...

Not a snowball's chance in hell that Calgary gives up that much for Marner. They already have a 10m+ forward who doesn't like to shoot the puck. Coronato is not comparable to Schwindt. He's a 13oa vs Schwindt who was a 3rd rounder. Lindholm is center so he holds more value. Andersson is a better defenseman that Weeger IMO. One of those pieces (Lindholm/Andersson), Coronato, and the 1st would be more based in reality. Although that trade makes no sense for Calgary, and even then I wouldn't want to give up those kind of assets for a player you essentially already have on your team.

Yeeesh. Leafs fan are delusional.

Marner doesn't hold 1/4th of that value.

As bad as the trade here is, you're as delusional saying that - easily top 5 RW and one of the most well-rounded wingers in the league. He's better than any individual piece there even at his caphit and it isn't close

Rasmus Andersson is a top 30 defender in the NHL who is 26 and signed for 3 more years at 4.5M.

Marner is the best player in this deal, sure, but he's certainly not the best asset in a cap world, and even if you wanted to debate that, the difference is nowhere close to Lindholm, and two top 16 draft picks.

You said he wasn't worth 1/4 of the trade, like I said, the trade is bad but he is certainly worth more than that. Lindholm is on an expiring deal, a 16th overall pick will very likely never come close to Marner (even with this draft being deep) and while Coronato looks to be a player, he is still just a prospect with 1 game between the AHL/NHL. Calgary fans would be rejoicing if they got him for Lindholm, Coronato and a 1st and the Leafs would never do it

Andersson alone accounts for far more than 1/4th of the value of that package, so I stand by what I said. He's the best asset in the entire deal in my opinion.

Any Flames fan with half a brain would be furious if we traded Lindholm, Coronato and a 1st for Marner. We are already locked into a 10+ Million dollar winger for better or worse, and adding another would only further compound our problems. Additionally such a trade would then require Conroy to dump nearly 8M of salary before the start of the season which is a near impossibility in todays game without giving up significant futures.

Marner at 10.9M for just two more years isn't an asset that will bring back an earth shattering return given the current cap environment - especially with his inability to step up in the playoffs (10 goals in 50 games won't cut it). The leafs are better of keeping him because as you said he is indeed one hell of a talent. The Tavares deal is the backbreaker for that team.

We aren't talking about specifically trading to Calgary, you said value. Any GM in the league would take Marner at his contract over Andersson as good as he is and as good as the contract is. Elite players are the most difficult thing to come by (ask Brad). Also, way to bring up goals when discussing an elite playmaking winger with 47 points in 50 playoff games. Ridiculously bending facts to make a point - Marner is more valuable than anyone on the Flames by a mile - think it'd be difficult to find a GM including Conroy in the league that would disagree with that statement.

Well we clearly won't agree here, but that's ok.

Give me the top pairing all situations RD, that comes at 60% less of the cost, with an extra year of term every day of the week. Andersson is the unicorn here with his contract, not Marner. Marner's contract is debilitating to any current contender, Andersson's isn't. League wide value has to favor Rasmus.

Also goals absolutely matter in the playoffs. If you are content paying Marner 11M a season to score at a 16 goal pace when the games tighten up then by all means have at it. It's a legitimate concern, and I guarantee GM's weigh that.

Debilitating lmao, is Vegas not about to win the cup with Eichel making $10M and Stone making 9.5? Marner is an all situations forward who has a larger impact on the game as a whole. Anderssons contract is great but so was Bunting at 900k but I wasn't taking him over any stars.

Goals matter in the playoffs, but so does setting up those goals and being elite defensively. Not saying +/- is everything and don't have the time to dig into advanced stats but in Calgary's last playoff run, Andersson was a -10 in 12 games and Marner was a +7 in 11 games with more than double the points, more minutes played, more takeaways and had 2PIMs to Anderssons 23PIMs. You can impact games in more ways than goal scoring, especially playing with 3 40+ goal scorers
