Not gonna happen, Ryan Murray vs Galchy is really not enough to get him out of here.

Jackets should ask more than Galchenyuk?

Murray/Galchenyuk swap is fair value for each. This would be an ideal offseason for Columbus all around.

Why is it Montreal fans think their players are worth an ungodly amount and others teams are not?

Galchenyuk is not a 1C. He is a very good 2C. Wennberg is on par with Galchenyuk. Murray being a young, controllable defenseman has a lot of value. Murray for Galchenyuk is an even trade.

Murray is honestly underwhelming and it would be a gamble that he could be a long term partner for Weber. Galchenyuk is more of a safe bet, because there's no questioning his ability to produce.
Galchenyuk is not a 2nd line center, he's a first line left winger stuck behind Pacioretty, because he "can't play center". rolling eyes

Montreal needs a partner for Weber and a first line center. Trading Galchenyuk for anything else is a loss. Of course Bergevin seems to like taking a loss on his former 1st round picks. squinty smile
Galchenyuk/Wennberg makes more sense for Montreal, but I'm not sure Columbus has the depth at either LD or C to give Montreal what they need.

Murray is better than what people think. Last year he fell victim to circumstance. Werenski showed up, and there is no question Werenski is better than Murray. The real question, is Murray better than Johnson? Murray is better player than Johnson. The problem for Murray is Johnson can only play with Savard. So by default Murray was relegated to the third pair.

Galchenyuk can fetch plenty more than an unproven #4-6 dman (Murray). Bergevin has sort of shot himself in the foot with his defense moves so far this offseason, so I guess there's always the possibility for him to make this deal.

Would be a significant win for CLB if it went through.

Murray is a career negative possession player, negative goal differentials, and negative shot suppression at even strength. Being on the 3rd pairing, where you typically face lesser competition, doesn't help when his numbers were particularly poor last season.

I'm not saying he doesn't have potential or room to improve, but he's simply not close to Galchenyuk in terms of value right now, and Montreal needs "right now" solutions.
Wennberg is the closest thing to that as a potential #1C and that leaves Columbus with less than ideal options for the same position (unless they put Galchenyuk there), which is why I say the two teams aren't necessarily a fit for each other. Even Werenski as a potential Weber partner is a risk (probably a worthwhile one, but still a gamble).
