No way they deal Cates. Doubt he’d realistically fetch the value that would making trading him worth it. Laughton probably costs a late 1st or 2nd+ a bit.

Laughton is probably a 1st and a bit more (a 4th? both your 1sts are likely late in the round), cates is probably one of those 1sts and a good/very good prospect (Hirvonen? Niemala?)

But both will cost more than TOR wants to give up, because if PHI moves them, they both have good value. And it would have to be what they want, not what you want to be rid of.

A late first for laughts. Possible other equivalents like 2nd + solid prospect would work. I know TML scoff at this, but he makes 3m and wears a letter. Given how young our group is going to be, he’d be a no brained to keep around unless the return is solid.

Cates is weird. I just don’t think the flyers have any desire to trade him. Another guy that costs 0, is extremely coachable, fits the timeline and is an actual stud defensively. I know it’s crazy, but I wouldn’t want anything less than 15OA for a player like that.

The Flyers waited years for Cates and he was one of the best defensive players in the league last year. He will not be available.

Agreed with what everyone else said. Nobody will want to pay the return on Cates that would make the Flyers happy to move him so he’s probably untouchable. For Laughton I want a late 1st because that’s what he would fetch at a deadline when someone gets desperate because of injury or depth issues and he’s a massive leader in a locker room

Honestly I could see Cates as a captain candidate one day.
