It's the 2026-2027 year that's the issue, it's a 4 mil+ cap hit.

the cap space gallagher is currently taking up isnt worth half of that price to MTL. Really no logical way to justify paying to dump his contract, although i do agree the price would be astronomical.

What's the point of this ?

It was a suggested trade on someone's AGM, I decided to look into it and figure what the cost in picks would be to move Gallagher. If he was an average NHL player it would be much less, but he has been below average, almost to the poor level. So the cost to dump is astronomical.

Montreals best bet is to buy him out, only the 26-27 season is the buyout an issue at over 4mil... the rest of the years can be handled with the increasing cap.

he is on the IR every year, his body is only going to last so long, they have plenty of cap space and better candidates for buyout/to dump in the next year or two, i think they will just hold on for now and see what things look like in two years.
