I think in any trade, the most intriguing asset will be the draft pick. The Horvat and Meier trades proved that to be the case.

Added a 2024 2nd, just like the Meier deal.

Prospects: I don’t see MTL parting with any blue chippers to acquire Dubois. I think the first piece to go is one of Beck/Kidney. I think Kidney is sent the other way and he has middle six center potential.

MTL has a logjam on the left side of defense and Struble seems like another candidate to go the other way. He has a physical edge to his game and has Top 4 potential, but is likely a 3rd pair dman.

Dvorak is a cap dump to make the money work and a project that Winnipeg could flip for more futures at a later date.

Maybe one more asset gets packaged in if the extension is included in the trade. Perhaps a young roster player U25.

I dont think they are interested at this point.

If they were going to make this trade it would have been last summer. They arent gping to give up those kind of assets for something they can have for free in a year especially when its better for them to be bad again this upcoming year

Why would Habs want to give up ANYTHING for Dubois? You are not trying to compete next year so just sit on your assets and get him in free agency in a year after he signs his QO this year.

I did not make the post to take a stand on whether I support the Dubois move to MTL or not. I made this post to describe the framework of a Dubois deal if it were to happen. Lastly, I would refrain from saying the word free. Nothing is free in any sport. You will pay with a higher cap hit and lose the option for an 8 year deal (whether that part matters or not).
