They weren't signing him so they got an asset (3rd round pick) for a disposable player they weren't intending on keeping.

LOL - you clearly missed the fact he was a disposable asset given they they had this trade in the works already with the flames but needed Ullmark to sign. They signed Ully, had Swayman and left the door open for Rask which made trading Vladar the best option to get an asset back for a player they no longer needed. Sure someone could have claimed him off waivers in September, but the fact remains the Bruins already made a decision where they were going with their goalies and Vladar was the odd man out with a trade already in the works pending Ully signing.
