Rather resign Samsonov than trade for Jarry. I know some team will pay that for Bertuzzi, the often injured, 50 point guys isn't worth that contract.

Why not, Dubas trade recored isn't good. I really don't why Dubas and Trevling should be hired as GMs.....They did a bad job in their last years in their previous stays as GM

They didn't do bad jobs, they just didn't get the job done. Also, Treliving left the Flames, he wasn't even fired. There are GMs who have done worse jobs and gotten rehired.

You're right about Trevling, and even Dubas wasn't really fired, he just wasn't resigned. Leafs could have left him hanging till the end of June but allowed him to find another job for next season.
Yeah, there seems to be a big revolving door around GMs. I really don't know why it's done, as it seems some guys just never learn from their mistakes.

I'm guessing the Treliving got hired because either:

A. MLSE or Shanahan want to keep the core intact if possible but want fans to think that changes will come. In the case that they can't keep the core intact they wanted someone who could think of creative solutions.

B. They want to change up the core, but want other teams to be making offers on guys who aren't "available". Dubas' comment in the press release on possibly moving a core player would have been among the reasons why they didn't resign him/continue negotiating.

C. They want to shop certain members of the core, and want a solid return.

D. They want Matthews, Nylander, and Marner to feel uncomfortable in contract negotiations, although two will have all the power when the time comes.

I'm a Leaf fan....but I don't understand what is so special about the "core". 29.6m in Matthews, Marner and Nylander who all might be traded. But even if the Leafs want to keep those three guys, Matthews and Nylander are UFAs next summer....so there's a excellent chance someone's leaving and the following summer Marner is in the same boat.

As a GM, they have to manage the cap well....something Ferguson, Burke, Nonis did horribly and Dubas wasn't that good at it either. Coming some of 2025, and all three of those guys aren't Leafs and Tavares too....that 39.6, I hope the GM spends wisely.

If you can't extend Matthews, theb yes chances are they keep him as an own rental, not like they would have much choice in the matter. If Matthews doesn't want to stay, he might be courteous like Tkachuk and allow himself to be dealt in a sign and trade but As for Nylander, they would trade him.

These guys haven't won anything but Matthews, Marner, and Nylander have always put the team in position to make the playoffs since their official rookie seasons, and when you look at teams like Anaheim, Arizona, Buffalo, Detroit, New Jersey (although they are finally turning it around), Ottawa, and Vancouver, many of these team have a lot of high end talent and haven't been able to do the same. They would be wise to spend all of that money back on the 3+Knies.

Just look at the Atlantic divisions. Sabres good young players under good team deals and futures coming. Wings in the same position. The Sens and Habs not in quite a good position with their cap but some good prospects. It's going to difficult for any of the top four currently in the Atlantic ....Bruins, Leafs, Lightning, Panther. to keep the other four shut out playoff positions for long

The Leafs....let's imagine Matthews wants 2.5m more, and Nylander 2m more. That's 4.5m in cap increase, and while the cap might go up that much, other players will want raises too. Is Matthews any better at 14m than he is now? Is Nylander any better at 9m than he is now? That's the dilemma for any GM. Or the Leafs say....that's too much for our blood, and we think we can spend that 23m better elsewhere
