I think a lot of the value on the trades is fair. Its seems like a real start to a rebuild. Only thing is I'm not sure Severson signs for a team going into a rebuild after spending his entire career (except for last season) pretty much on a rebuilding team.

Thought about it alot....I think at 27-28 yrs old Severson isnt all in for a cup as yet, but on a team that will grow with him getting top minutes and every chance to be the leader. Severson is getting slightly overpaid, but its a 5 or 6 yr deal (takes him to 34 yrs old), so really its not about 23-24, but going from there.

Philly has been hamstrung by injuries to their top 6 forwards the last 2 yrs, but their rebuild is really underway by playing alot of youth. A healthy Couturier/Atkinson, along with solid higher end young 23-25 yr olds in Farabee, provorov, Koneckny, Tippett, Frost and even younger guys like Foerster, York, Attard, Hart, Cates and Bemstrom are all here NOW, so they've got 12-14 guys who are all young and should be hitting "their stride" in 2-3 years, with high end prospects Andrae, Gautheir, Brink and whomever their 7OV is this year, still to come in the near future.

Its also guaranteed first pairing minutes. Severson is the preference, but the UFA RD market is pretty good with Severson, Dumba, Klingberg, etc....

That pens trade is horrible for Philly. No reason to do that without anything substantial coming back.

Agreed this team looks good except for the Pens trade. I’m not helping them with anything unless we are fleecing them. Add in a 2nd and a 3rd to that trade and I’ll take their cap dumps otherwise they can go pound sand

Maybe, and we normally agree on Philly stuff. Heres my thinking:

Center is one of our weakest spots, Carter can go off into retirement, hes a solid two way option with some offense, playing limited minutes/injury insurance on our 3rd/4th line and is a solid 13th. For PIT hes pure cap dump.

The only reason we take Carter is to solve the 3LD spot with a capable, stay at home guy to partner with Attard. Sure theres alot more options out there, Soucy for one or just stay with Seeler/Zamula at 3LD.

As far as giving up Alison, hes probably worth a good 4th rounder, but with foerster/atkinson/koneckny/tippett/brink/bemstrom we have alot of RW options. Maybe PIT throws in Carter and Rutta for nothing, I dont know I thought Id clear the RW logjam. Desnoyers, Brink are both callups if theres an injury on LW/RW, but a vet center, who could play up/down in lineup, would be nice

And without overdoing it on the UFA front of adding a 13th forward and a good 3rd pairing LD, it just came to mind. (But Rutta and Carter probably dont return much at all, and theres probably better options)

I totally agree with the ideas behind the trade but without a better return on that deal I’d rather not help them

Agree, I think if Carter waives his NTC to go and retire in PHI, we'd get him for free or with a 4th rounder at his full cap hit. Rutta might be worth a 3rd or so in trade. But all in all for the cost of 6mil in cap space we could do better, but as I said a quality 5th Center who can play up and down in lineup to see if Couts is healthy, Frost actually is a 2C and Cates/UFA (Kampf) are good at 3C/4C would be a wise investment

I know people want to drop the Sanheim deal for the rebuild, but something about trading him right after signing an eight year deal just feels slimy to me. Granted they pretty much did the same with Carter and Richards many years ago so who knows.

I guess I just get that feeling that other players may want to avoid signing if they feel Philly will just throw them away in the blink of an eye.
