Pretty Basic Offseason

Créé par: Salzy

Description
Seems like the Ducks are setting up for (hopefully) one more "Tank" year with our wave of prospects are probably a year away from full time in the NHL. Plus the amount of cap space we will have for the next offseason's FA class, they could be set up for a huge next 12-15 months for the franchise.

Quite a few players are in the "Depends on the new coach" purgatory: Comtois, and Benoit, to a lesser extent UFA vets like Shattenkirk (there has been some talk about him resigning) and Grant

Ultimately I think the Ducks sign (or at least have the needs of):
- a backup/3rd goalie (Stolarz a natural fit)
- 2 NHL Caliber RD (At least one "Vet")
- Veteran LD (Kulikov cause why not)

I honestly think the forward group is already too full (of mid to be fair) to make signing any FA worthwhile. Saving cap and $$ for next offseason should be the priority.

Alternative Forward lines without Fanitlli in top 6

Vatrano-Zegras-Terry
Henrique-McTavish-Strome
Lundestrom-Fantilli-Silf (Lundestrom and Fantilli can alternate between LW/C)
McGinn-Carrick-Jones

If Fantilli doesnt play in the NHL next year keep Lundestrom at 3C and slot the bottom 6 like this

Nesterenko-Lundestrom-Silf
McGinn-Carrick-Jones

DAL
  1. Vaakanainen, Urho
Détails additionnels:
doesnt necessarily need to be Hakanpaa or DAL but Vaak for a veteran RHD that a team may need to move out this offseason is the point here
2.
ANA
  1. Addison, Calen [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
If Addison is part of the future plans in MIN obviously this doesnt work but the general idea is Comtois in a change of scenery deal
MIN
  1. Comtois, Maxime [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Feels like such an awkard place for Comtois this offseason, I could see him being non-tendered, but I could also see a team parting with a mid round pick (worse players have gotten more)

Most realistic trade is for a similar young player that needs a scenery change. I dont think a decision gets made before a new coach is brought in

Swap out Vaakanainen for someone like LaCombe, Nestorenko, or any other waiver-exempt, NHL-depth caliber prospect and I'm down. Not sure Dallas would have room for Vaakanainen on the NHL roster next season, and I'm not sure he'd clear waivers to be sent to the AHL.

Alternatively, I'd gladly just accept a 3rd for Hakanpaa.

I think you're mostly right here, I would not expect any additions to the forward group. Maybe one bad contract taken on for picks, but it would have to be a pending UFA.

I think the case for buying a top 4 RHD is still valid. Next seasons UFA class at RHD isn't any better than this years, and we have a long term need there.

And as you mention, I think Fantilli doesn't make the main roster this season, the AHL would be the best place for his continued development.

I'd also like to see Lundestrom given a shot at 2C in case we decide to use him as a trade chip, showing he is capable of putting up the points with respectable wingers will be key. I also think putting Jones on 2nd or 3rd line to see if he builds in the confidence he was playing with this year.

LaCombe is not a depth freebie prospect, Nestrenko would work.

I feel like the guy we move is going to be Vaak, I miss Hakanpaa so I went and got him tears of joy

Im sure theres something to be worked out though we're loaded with picks the next 3 drafts. The new coach may value Vaak more than guys like Benoit but im not sure.

I dont think LaCombe would be available, the org is high on him and I think they want to see what they have there.

I like Haakanpaa, but as a 3RD while leaving Helleson in the AHL another season. I also hate the Drysdale Fowler pairing, I am eternally convinced they don't work as a D pairing, too soft and easy to bump off the puck, neither of them throw hits, just two mobile defensemen with strong offensive instincts, fast skating, and neither are liabilities in their own end, but neither are good defensively either.

Wasn't sure how the two of them were viewed; haven't watched the Ducks much this year. Appreciate the input.

If we go after a big ticket defenseman this offseason I think it should be Graves 100%, I went with more boring and "real" tears of joy Im definitely going to cook up something with more aggressive moves.

I think Fantilli (or Carlsson to be fair, he should be mentioned as a real possibility) playing in the NHL all depends on our coach, I agree some AHL seasoning would be beneficial though. I think a Lundestrom trade is a year away, or at least until Gaucher is NHL ready

And Gaucher is the biggest darkhorse to make the team that I dont have here imo, so that could get sped up.

I love the position we're in, lets hope Verbeek is the right guy to man the ship. This has the potential to be a franchise-altering next 12-15 months, and we either get stuck in purgatory for a few more years or we break through with all our top prospects having similar NHL ETAs

Honestly I didnt even touch the D pairs tears of joy Drysdale-Fowler 100% a no go lmao.

They both need a defensive dman, a Hinds-Drysdale pairing could be great long term

Hakanpaa was purely a "Hes a RD and I liked him on the Ducks" tears of joy

A fun thought I’ve had: a Domi Lundeström Vatrano 3rd line

I think Peeke could be a good Fowler parter as well

I really don’t want to trade Comtois until at least the deadline if he really isn’t working out still even under a new HC, that’s a hill I am still on and will die on if it comes to but I think he plays real well with Z and Terry

Oh I would 100% keep Comtois if it was up to me. Just seems like the writing is on the wall for him to be gone, I'm assuming its essentially going to be up to whomever our new coach is if we qualify him or not.

I hope Dallas Eakins Ineptitude doesnt cost us Comtois

Might just be me, but I’m really ready to move on from Silfverberg. He’s nothing better than a 4th liner and he’s just a waste of a slot where someone else could play.

I think buying him out or sending to the minors

From what I’ve read over the years he’s one of the main locker room leaders, I’d have a hard time seeing Verbeek buying him out or paying to get rid of him, etc…

I think he should definitely be more of a 13th forward for us and be a mentor for all the younger guys.

Really sucks to see how much that injury seemed to take out of his game
