Michkov falling to 8 is almost as crazy.

I have Michkov at 10. Not based on skill. Based on, will he, won't he, when might he if he does... come to the NHL.

He has said that it’s his dream! But there is a lot of crazy going on around him and I wonder if things get dicey as the 26/27 gets closer.

If the sharks have that draft I’m ecstatic! Top line RHS forward, potential top 4 RD and a potential starter isn’t a bad haul and fills the 3 biggest holes for the sharks prospect pool.

At this point I think capfriendly has pretty much accepted Willander as the 2nd dman to get drafted, and if that’s the case, there’s a strong point to be made for wings getting him at 9. He likely wouldn’t still be there at 17 and there’s enough forwards in the same tier that one will be there at 17

Also, I think the opposite. One of Moore/Benson/Leonard will be available at 9. These are guys a step above than anything that'll be at 17. If we don't get Willander @17, then damn! Guess we're getting Dragicevic.

Obviously, the issue with Michkov is his KHL contract, not skill or fit. Putin's buddy (Ovi) could have a lot of sway in getting him out of his contract earlier to come to the NHL.

With his KHL contract running til 25/26, most of the GMs drafting in the top 10 won't even have a job in 2026 if they don't get better. Many of them don't have the luxury to wait on Michkov. This isn't taking Kuch in the 2nd round and waiting a year or two for him.

For context, Pronman has Willander rated 15th, Craig Button (the most accurate Mock Drafter the last 5 years) has Willander 8th. Bob McKenzie (maybe the best mock drafter ever in the NHL) has him in the top 20.

Pronman has Michkov at 3, Button has him at 4. Both call out the issue is contract, not skillset. Button and McKenzie are reporting that the contract could cause Michkov to go in the mid teens.

There was a writer that picked Mo Seider to DET in his mock in 2019, but I can't remember his name. I need to keep looking and see his mock draft.

You’re right they are vastly different. And I agree if there’s a forward prospect that is in a tier above then we take him at 9. I’m not so sure there will be and I definitely don’t put Moore in that same category. I’d say better chance he’s available at 17 than Willander

If Montreal takes Reinbacher at 5, they should take But over Strbak with the Florida pick.
