Matthews is 25 years old. If the FLyers can get him for that price and extend him, they do it.

No they don't. They are just starting a rebuild and aren't going to be competitive for the next 5 years and will just waste his prime if he hasn't already left since he is a UFA and probably won't sign with a rebuilding team.

Shanahan never stated that. He said he offered him a contract, but that contract was never agreed upon.
