Description
I used the McCabe trade for reference but added a prospect on top of that package. And of course Toronto also got Lafferty, but Edmonton is only getting the defenseman.

IMO Chicago has a log jam at RHD. They're obviously committed to Jones for the foreseeable future, Ian Mitchell has earned a roster spot for next season, Regula might make a push for a spot too. And on top of that they've got 1 year of Zaitsev, and with 6 picks in the first 2 rounds this year, they likely add another high end prospect at RHD. So why not get back another 1st rounder to surround Bedard with as much young talent as possible?

From an Edmonton perspective, I like both Ceci and Desharnais. But Murphy is a much better skater than both. He's maybe not as good of a rush defender as you'd want, but he's solid at limiting high danger chances around the net and he seems to be a consistent player who is not injury prone.

We are SORT OF log jammed at RHD, but we really don't have anything coming up the same way we do with LHD, which is where the real log jam is. Mitchell seems to be on his way out the door, Regula seems to need more AHL time, and Rinzel is gonna need at least two years in college, if not more. Beyond that, we essentially have nothing legit on the way at RHD. Yes, Jones is most likely in CHI for the long haul, but Murphy is the longest tenured Hawk left and has been a great leader and mentor. It's really up to him, but I think keeping him around could be very beneficial.

That all being said, I don't see any reason why CHI shouldn't accept. Maybe the retention. But, if it helps get a deal done, I'm more than confident in CHI's ability to handle it. This is a strong offer.

Just a Oilers fan opinion.
5.5M for 5 years isn’t happening by Bouchard, Oilers would do that in a heartbeat.
Both Klim and McLeod are over paid, they have zero arbitration rights.

If you’re benching Ryan then I’m not sure why you sign him?

Also Murphy has a M-NTC and I believe he wouldn’t waive it last trade deadline, I don’t recall the team though.

I'm not the author, but I think you're way off. First, both McLeod and Kostin are arbitration eligible. As such, I'd go so far as to say they're underpaid but, given the term, it may be plausible. As for Bouchard, I think his number lands at 4mil for 3 years (the Dobson contract) plus-or-minus 750k for each year added/removed (3.25 for 2, 4.75mil for 4, 5.5 for 5... 7.75 for 8). The author's total seems within the realm of reason to me. Lastly and perhaps most confusingly, why else would one sign Ryan? To have a capable, versatile, and stable veteran that wants to be in EDM as your 13th forward.

I'd probably prefer to trade Ceci and keep Kulak and try to expand the CHI trade to include Raddysh, but all-in-all, I quite like the roster. However, keep Foegele and McLeod together and don't you EVER sign Perry angry

As an Oilers fan I can tell you with certainty that no Oilers including Bouchard will have Arbitration rights.
Secondly you can’t bridge any of the players longer than 2 years or the qualify for UFA status.
The absolute most Klim and McLeod will receive is 1M from Klim and at the highest 1.2M for McLeod.

Bouchard isn’t giving two years away for nothing, his bridge deal will be between 3M to 4M not because that’s what he expects but that’s literally what the Oilers can afford.
Bouchard is 7M to 8M in two years, he isn’t giving 3M away for free.

I believe both McLeod AND Kostin are arbitration eligible, so I might have underpaid them actually. You're probably right about Bouchard though, I should have just given him a 4.5 x 3 bridge deal.

I'm so confused!!! I've had a bunch of oilers fans tell me that Kostin and Mcleod are arbitration eligible. And I even read a news article that said Kostin had arbitration rights. I don't know what to believe now lol! This article https://oilonwhyte.com/2023/05/24/edmonton-oilers-stay-go-klim-kostin/ and one other I can't find both claim Kostin has arbitration rights, so idk.

Is there a cap friendly tool that tells you if a player is or anything?

But why do you think Bouchard can't be bridged for 3 years? He'd still be under 27 and played less than 7 full professional seasons (his 7 game stint in 2019 doesn't count). Aren't those the 2 criteria for keeping rfa status

Also I wasn't trying to bridge Kostin and Mcleod, just didn't expect the oilers to be able to lock them up long term.

That's a solid offer for Murphy half retained. Hawks would have to consider this if they decide to trade Murphy (not a given) and Murphy agrees to go to Edmonton
