EDM doesn't make that trade. The idea was mildly compelling (not the inclusion of the 1st, though) but just isn't tenable given their cap situation both now and going forward.

garland is a massive upgrade from yamamoto and fits a clear need. Ceci is nothing more than a cap dump bottom pair defensemen. I think a late first rounder is more than reasonable

Yeah it does depend on that, ceci would be an upgrade and comes far cheaper.

I think this trade only works in a hypothetical ‘blow up the core’ sort of move. Miller’s play style could be enticing for the new gm, although i agree that nylander is the last guy they should trade

That might be, but Hawks aren't taking on his full $6m in salary for a round and a half move up into the 3rd round. And Hawks have 4 guys on the right side for next year already.

Myers only counts 1mil in salary next year after his bonus is paid. Tbh i wasn’t sure of chicagos need for rhd but if that’s the case then a team like anaheim would also work

I agree that he's an upgrade on Yamo and I really actually quite like Garland. My point is more that the main reason they need to move on from 2 of Yamo, Ceci, Foegele, or Kulak is to open up enough cap space to afford their RFAs while filling out a full roster. If they were to add Garland while doing that, they'd then need to move on from one of or both of Kulak and Foegele, too. That kind of year-over-year overhaul and gutting of depth isn't conducive to consistent success.

I disagree that Ceci is a bottom pairing Dman or a cap dump (in the sense you seem to mean). His stats from this year are while playing more minutes than he ought to on a shutdown pairing and yet he still managed to keep his head above water. He's a completely competent 2nd pair guy and 3.25mil is an entirely reasonable amount to pay for him. My issue with the term cap dump as you used it is that it doesn't distinguish between a literal waste of cap (Kassian; costs to move), a player that isn't quite worth his cap hit but is still a solid NHLer (Puljujarvi or McDonagh; may cost a small amount to move but might just be a FC trade), and a capable NHLer whose team can't fit his cap into their structure (what I call a 'cap casualty'; player costs less to acquire than he normally would). I put Ceci somewhere between the latter two categories.

dvorak is a defensive black hole at 5 on 5. Strangely enough he has been an offensive black hole at 5 on 5 aswell. He doesn’t drive play well. The only factor that makes his value even close to beau is the fact that he is a centerman

You are using 2023 draft picks in the proposal, which means this trade happens before bonuses are paid, which means CHI would be responsible for paying his bonus, base salary, and cap hit. Regardless of that, we already have too many RHD as it is. So unless we move Jones or Murphy, and/or buyout/waive Zaitsev, and let Mitchell walk or trade him, we just don't have the roster space for another RD.
