Tavares wont waive his NMC. Stop trading him

Canes pass. A retained Tavares isn't something I'd be against. At the cost of Pesce though, yeah, you're stuck with Tavares. Hirvonen and Neimela don't move the needle for Pesce and I'd rather have Pesce at 4 than Tavares at 8.5 for another several years.

The only way Tavares waives is Toronto’s trades Matthews and claims they are on a reboot.

It's an awful deal because Brett Pesce is a good playoff performer compared to Tavares who's usually invisible come playoff time. The Hurricanes would rather have somebody like Kuzmenko than Tavares.

Uhhh... what? 8.5 a year for a guy on the wrong side of thirty that underperforms when his team needs him, or one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL that's still under the age of thirty that makes half the cap hit and arguably plays the more valuabe position... you'd be a fool to make this trade with Carolina.

Canes pass exceptionally easy, and Tavares also says no with his NMC.

I just did this more for fun, I realize that Carolina likely wouldn’t except the trade and Tavares wouldn’t waive his NMC. However, with 2.5M retained Tavares would have a cap hit around 8.5M. In my opinion, Tavares still have value at 8.5Mx2 years because he’s still a point per game player that would provide leadership too. But Pesce is a very valuable piece and Carolina would likely not accept the trade.
