Nope, Nope, Nope. Peterson is owed 11 million with a cap hit of 5 & 5 (or 10 and cap of 5, 3, & 1 if you buy him out next Summer).....no way a late 2nd is enough to take that albatross. That is multiple 2nds one of which needs to be a higher 2nd than where the Kings will be likely to pick.

Bailey is bringing a 2nd and not costing a pick or the Isles can figure out their cap otherwise without the Hawks involved.

Athanasiou is not getting a raise or a 2nd year. He should pinch himself that he likely gets an NHL roster spot to begin with, and then a chance to play on an upper line with some PP time maybe even with Bedard at points. If he can get 2 years at 4 per from someone else....God bless and good luck.

Gus....I guess...maybe...but if I can wrap my head around actually doing that...probably just for a year as a placeholder to season Korchinski another season.

Gus for a 3rd time...no way. Hawks paying for Bailey...no way. Peterson to Hawks for a single 2nd...no way. Hawks will overpay two UFA's like Domi or Bunting or Haula or any of several others to play on the wings w/ Bedard.

I think you may not be considering the fact that Chicago currently has 41 million in cap space and has to acquire some players not only for the cap but also to play with Bedard. One way or another you'll be giving out contracts to guys like Athanasiou who will be making more than their worth because they're playing for a garbage team with an absurd amount money to spend in order to hit the floor. Not to mention the fact that A.A. put up a 40 point season on the worst team in the league and Bailey put up nearly a half a point per game, these guys are not as bad as you think they may be and a team that NEEDS their contracts to abide by NHL rules cannot demand a year's worth of picks for them. Also Petersen was bad last year but multiple 2nd's is ridiculous, especially considering the fact that your other options are Mrazek and Soderblom who were both arguably worse.

The Hawks have zero cap floor issue. That is a myth. Pull an agm for the Hawks, sign Drouin for a year at 4 and Domi for 4 for whatever length you think you want/need, and you can fill out the rest of the roster with league minimum AHL fodder and you'll reach the cap floor.

Why do a rebuilding Hawks need better than Mrazek/Soderblom? Pretty sure the objective will be to lose a lot next season and that combo certainly helps. Petersen was not just bad last year, he has progressively gotten worse every year in the league culminating in spending most of the season being mediocre in the AHL for a team desperate for good goaltending in the NHL. Hawks are a half dozen major pieces away (multiple LHD, a goalie, multiple forwards) from being even mediocre. There best bet is to suck next year in hopes you get the equivilent of Bedard next Summer, let your kids develop in hopes a couple are ready to fill holes next season, grab a couple good UFA's next Summer and start to climb (but honestly another year minimum of more of the same).
