Description
With the weakest FA class in some time, Devils should try and trade for another elite winger to fill out this team. There is really no cap concerns for about two years so they should try and limit all their role players to two year contracts and that includes the winger trade. Two options stand out. Hall and Ehlers. Both have two years left at 6mil per and both are starting to have rumors of being traded. I think the Hall rumors make more sense if Boston really did see this as the last true attempt while being elite and they need to free up cap space. They replace Hall with Sharangovich who is a cheaper immediate roster spot and get two mid level prospects to help with their league worst roster pool and a second round pick thrown in. Sharangovich is worse then Hall but he is still a useful player and can help in their retool over rebuild process. Also gives them room to resign Bertuzzi and their other FAs. They also do right by Hall and send him to a place where he still has a chance to win. Hall already knows the people here and the area and should fit in well now that the team he was carrying has grown up.

Agreed. I love Hall and he'd be great on this Devils team but that's way too much to give up for him at this point in time.

I really don't get why.

Hall is better then Shara, taking his roster spot.
Like Clarke but he's at that age now where he's too good for the AHL and there's no spot for him on this team.
Like Vilen, but when is the earliest we see him? Four years from now with the D we have on the roster?
You could talk me into the added second being to much, but I think that's what could tip it over another teams offer.

Devils are in "Go for it" mode. This fanbase is stuck with hoarding assets cause that's what we been used to for ten years. Be smart about it sure but trading two prospects that wont see significant time until they are 25 years old on this team for 100+ games of Taylor Hall is absolutely worth it. Dude is still one of the best possession players in the game. Need depth scoring. If you get a cup in either of those two years with Hall, it's what brings you over the top. Rather then player with only potential to be a middle six winger and a bottom pair defenseman on this team.

Just because you have assets you give them away? Terrible asset management. I am ok with Hall coming back, but at half that return (at a min no Shar). Hall has a 10 team no trade cause so he wants to go where he can win. Boston is strapped and slowly going into a retool. Shar and our 2nd would need retention from Boston.
B's have no 1st or 2nd this yr and next, the terms get told to them, not the other way around. You want to add Frederick to that pkg thats a different convo, but Bs wont do that.

Cap will be tight again next year. Wingers on big deals will be super cheap (there are always wingers available on discount). Hall had a down year, ended up on 4th line at times. We could probably acquire him for a couple of mid-picks.
