Simply put, Ducks fans are of the opinion that Gibson is still an elite level starting goalie. We watch him play, so we know he still passes the eye test. His stats are an indictment of the team in front of him, not a sign that his abilities have diminished. Compared to league average goaltending over the past four seasons, he has only been off by a couple of percentage points each year, the majority of which he had no goal support and a once great defensive core that was decaying in front of him, and by the time he had goal support, said defensive core had been dismantled.
There is a reason he was an all-star just last year, he rolled into the all star break with the Ducks in 2nd place in the division and him rocking a 0.924 SV% on the season at that time. After the break was when it was announced the team would be selling at the TDL, and everyone lost hope, and the team plummeted to 21st in the standings.
So, knowing that he can still play at an elite level, and having VERY recent evidence to back up our belief that he will return to said level as soon as we can put a defense in front of him that can fight it's way out of a wet paper bag, we see no reason to trade him period, let alone for a flamed out former 1st round pick, another nothing prospect, and a 7th, let alone retain for four year on top of that to boot. Even if we for some reason we're feeling that charitable, Gibson would block the trade himself.
If he's "not worth much" then we are more than happy to keep him on our roster through the end of his contract, four years from now.
