Problem is two fold. If you want to wait then you can sign him in another year, but Habs will need to have the cap to get what he may want. Now if you wa t him this summer it will cost you as Jets have all the cards. At least a 1st and a player. And I doubt they want to take on a 3rd or 4th line player with term a d cap hit.

Yeah Dvorak is a cap dump. In both the Horvat deal and Meier deal there was money going back. That’s simply how it works with the cap the way it is and yes teams will absolutely touch Mailloux. Montreal has already faced the scrutiny over that. GM’s don’t actually care what he did lol

As a throw in sure some will but not as a prospect with much value.

The problem with Mailloux is that even without all the baggage attached to him, he isn't that good of a prospect. He's not good in his own zone, has issues with his hockey sense, and is an offensive defenseman who hasn't been able to hit a point per game in his D+2 season.

The Jets drafted Kuzmin in the 3rd round of the same year, and he's arguably put up a better season than Mailloux this year and last year. I don't think any team in the league would want Kuzmin as a centerpiece for an elite player of Dubois caliber, and that's exactly how Mailloux is also seen.

The Jets had better trade him because Montreal isnt giving any valuable assets for a guy who will join them next off season and most teams won't trade anything of value for a one year rental. How about a fifth rounder? The Jets have zero leverage
