He's been a really solid Ranger, can play up the lineup when needed and brings the intangibles a team looking to go on deep playoff runs needs. Unfortunately it is just the cap hit the Rangers cap situation.
It's hard to work out scenarios where they can keep Goodrow for next year without A) Trading one of Lafreniere, Miller or Kakko (non-starter I'd say, I think NYR management would agree) or B) having Kakko, Vesey, Othmann and another league-min or near league-min player as RW depth next year. Or having Goodrow as 2RW with someone like Jake Lecyshcyn or Ryan Carpenter as 4C. Not great.
They have an outside chance or bringing back Tarasenko if they deal Goodrow and the cap rises 3.5+ next year as is being rumored. Bottom line, would love to keep Goodrow but the math just doesn't seem to work.
Also I just picked the Sharks as a placeholder team. Some team would take him for a 4th or a 5th in a cap dump.
