Doesn't make any sense for Ottawa.

For the DeBrincat/Joseph/Thomson package I'd want a top-six player who isn't overpaid and if we're getting a defenseman it better be an RHD.

I feel that you're giving up too much to Seattle here.

And that Larsson should be targeted instead of Oleksiak.

I kinda like the direction , perhaps Adam Larsson / Bjorkstrand in place of Gourde / Oleksiak ?

How? Gourde is a pretty damn good 2-way player, a winner and leader. Oleksiak is a towering D-man who is pretty damn good defensively. He's exactly what the Sens need and the that defense would probably be the best in the NHL

Chabot - Oleksiak
Chychrun - Sanderson
Brannstrom - Zub

Or the one I have in the OP

DeBrincat is overrated and will make too much for too long. Joseph would become a cap casualty and not as needed anyway. Thomson is a good OFD prospect but I don't think he will really have an opportunity in Ottawa

Well, I wouldn't trade Larsson for DeBrincat if I am Seattle so...

Gourde is not overpaid, he would be a key piece in transforming Ottawa into a winner

I would trade DeBrincat for him straight up. 9.0 AAV vs 5.166 AAV? Not a risky term too

If the team starts having success, could re-up Giroux and Gourde to be "cheap" vets leader and help this team win in the playoffs.

Well, I would do that in a heartbeat

Doubt Francis would though

I wouldn't trade DeBrincat for Gourde, Gourde has played an entire season this year and has scored 11 goals, DeBrincat is just a far better player.

Gourde is not paid to score goals... oposedly to DeBrincat

DeBrincat is more skilled/flashy, I'll give you that but I don't know if you noticed, our problem is 5v5 play, not PP

Norris was injured and he has the best shot on the team. His one timer is deadly. The PP doesn't absolutely need DeBrincat

DeBrincat has 33 non PP pts this season, Gourde has 42 non PP pts and is a much much better player all around.

But that's not even the main problem. DeBrincat has a 9.0 Qualifying Offer. It's going to be hard to get him signed under that because of past production and he'll be looking for a long term contract. Gourde doesn't have much term and is not overpaid. Our cap flexibility is going to be very important going forward. Would you want to lose one of Pinto, Greig, Kleven, etc because we chose to overpay DeBrincat long term?

Whoever signs him to a 9.0 x 8 years is going to regret it. Mark my words.

Considering how bad everyone considered Chicago’s return for him was and seeing how mid DeBrincat has been for his standards you’ll probably get even less for him

Chicago got the 7th and 39th overall picks in the draft and a 3rd for him alone

I would trade DeBrincat if he demanded 9x8 but I'd prefer a Konecny type player.

Konecny and his current AAV would be ideal. Only worry would be his next contract but dead salaries will expire by then
