Description
Step one is to go out and get Tom Wilson. The Caps are done and need to start rebuilding. Resign the home town boy 4x4.

Step two is to get rid of Murray. It’s only one year to dump but we have to find somewhere he will accept and somewhere with cap space and a need for a goalie. Carolina fits every bit of that criteria. Next year I’m sure they’ll want to play their Russian kid and Murray would be a fine backup for one season.

I’m bringing in the Staal’s to have some more winners. You can never have too much leadership and too much experience. I’m sure Jordan will resign in Carolina but I’m hoping if we did sign his brothers maybe he would give us one year before going back to Carolina.

Caps aren't trading Wilson but if they were you'd have to swap Kral with Knies. I know you'll say that's an overpay but if Caps put Wilson on the block AND ate money, the return would be insane.

It’s a clear cap dump. I don’t even have them giving up anything of value.

I think they’d get a 1st and a 2nd or a 1st and a 3rd with a prospect. If it was without any retention then just a 1st. The only thing hurting his value is he’s a pending UFA.

Obviously but the Canes will need a starter they can count on. Kochetkov is still unknown. Murray is far too inconsistent/ leaky to be of interest without a real reason to do so. Neither of those prospects are real motivators to do so

Kochetkov is unknown? He’s clearly going to be the guy next year. Freddie and Raanta aren’t it and I don’t know why either would be brought back. If you want a veteran goalie to split time with the Russian kid why not take one on an expiring deal and get two of our best AHLers for basically nothing? Abruzzese will probably be on our 4th line next season.

Kochetkov is still far too raw and inconsistent to be counted on to be a 1A of a playoff team.

Abruzzese is okay but he doesn’t make the move of taking on Murray worth the risk.

I doubt Canes consider touching Murray with a 39 1/2 foot pole without some better incentives coming along, especially since the 2 prospects you have here wouldn’t really interest the Canes. C and RD are the deepest positions in the pipeline. While Koochie is ready for full time up at the NHL level, he isn’t ready to be the 1A next year. The Canes need a 1A that won’t get injured at crucial times, like Murray. Goalies like Varlamov or even Gibson would be the a couple of the first options they consider, with Murray likely being outside the top 10 options. Now if Toronto is offering a first to take on Murray, Canes will at least listen.

J. Staal is going to resign with the Canes. Almost no chance he signs elsewhere.

Then they wouldn’t be trading him. What’s the point in trading a guy who’s going to be a Cap for life for no notable pieces?? 1st and Knies is the START of the conversation.

Yeah, Canes pass. Kochetkov isn't ready to be a starter, so they'll need someone that can be a starter but is also competent in a backup role when Kochetkov heats up. There are way better options in free agency. Not to mention, guys like Varlamov could actually communicate with Kochetkov who is still learning English. Murray doesn't make sense for Abruzzese and Villenueve. Maybe if it was Holmberg or even Liligren given the recent performances may make more sense. This ain't it.

You're also not luring Jordan Staal out of Raleigh. It's likely he re-signs with the Canes

going to take something completely insane for the caps to move wilson before the season starts, and he's not signing 4x4 with anyone

Why would the Canes take Murray when they can just get a better UFA goalie? With respect to the other players you’ve added - doesn’t make sense for the Canes.
