While I understand the surface-level approach to a Bobrovsky-Miller swap, I don't think enough emphasis is being placed on Miller at least being productive in the here-and-now. His contract will age terribly and he couldn't find his own zone if he was express mailed into his own net, but he's still a great hockey player when the puck is moving northbound.
Bobrovsky's contract might as well be radioactive waste at this point. He's a tolerable netminder in his own right but he's at least twice the price he should be. There is a chance that after his $5M signing bonus is paid the Panthers could ask Sergei to submit his 16 team NTC a season early and flip him at 50% retained to a team in desperate need of a starting netminder provided that an equal amount of cap is exchanged between teams. Perhaps this results in no additional cap space freed up for the Cats, but instead of having one player at a cap price-point of $10M USD, they would have two (if you include the retention in that price tag). Otherwise, the only other way to shed his contract is going to be by way of buyout. I don't think there's a realistic swap on the market anywhere for his contract. The Panthers don't have the assets to pull off a swap for Karlsson and most every other player in that cap range provides enough positive value to their club that their respective GMs don't entertain a deal.
I think acquiring Myers is antithetical to the Panthers trying to contend and be a competitive team.
