We don't really need to dump Scandella and we aren't looking to compete next year. We don't need Dvorak or Edmundson. Especially not giving up a first for those two players. We are doing a mini rebuild from about 2-4 years.

They can always just buyout Scandella if they want. They aren't going to be competing next year anyways. If they trade a first it will be for a good player at least

You can say the 2nd is to dump Scandella that would mean Edmundson/Dvorak cost a late 1st. Hardly much especially with the Bues having 3 1sts already in 2023.. A lottery ticket, really. Mtl, most likely, gets a better deal than this but i went low.

They'd easily get a 1st for Edmundson at the TDL and their cap is fine going forward with LTIR on Price whos retiring officially and Gallagher's career in jeopardy.. The Blues have no leverage here. This is more to move out veterans for the Habs and give space to the young players

Dumping Scandella is not so dire, he only has one year left and is a much more solid player than everyone acts like he is as long as he's not asked to play top pairing. The Blues could re-sign Barby or Acciari, among other options that are not limited to UFA free agency. I'm sure we'll be just fine without accepting this highway robbery, thanks.

Again why are the blues wanting to dump Scandella? We are not competing next year and have no need to trade future assets for meh players. Again the blues have no need for Dvorak and no need for Edmundson. Trade them to a real contender if you want. Yes we are going to suck and the GM knows it. Neither Edmundson nor Dvorak are in that age group. This trade makes 0 sense for the blues. We will trade the first for younger better players like we were rumored to be in on. Players like Meier and Chychrun, not Dvorak and Edmundson

I don’t see why Edmundson has the value to return a 1st and Scandella is a dump. They’re extremely similar players.

You could genuinely argue all 3 players included are dumps. I’m being facetious here, but it’s not that far fetched.

I could see Dvorak being of interest, but not at the cost of a first. He’s a young enough guy it could be a decent reclamation project at a position of need. I just doubt they’d want to be locked into that contract at that term.

Given the circumstances I would rather the Blues sign Lars Eller for 3-4m for next year as opposed to getting dvorak for 2 seasons. I would probably pay a 3rd for him to take the chance he’s worth having a roster spot for while we wait for Bolduc, Dean and Snuggerud to earn the spots.

Personal opinion I would value all 3 players as the following at this point in time.

Dvorak 3rd rounder
Edmundson 2/3rd rounder
Scandella 3/4the rounder

Another point to your comment. You’re stating the Blues are needing to do essentially the same thing thay you’re trying to accomplish here. They do, but they don’t need to do it next season. We have like 8m in cap and really only need to sign 2-3 depth/4th line forwards and a 3C.

Switch Scandella to Krug and I’d do this. It’s not realistic, Krug isn’t waiving for Montreal right now. But that’s besides the point

What? Neither are available. My whole point was that the free agency list is barren. Dvorak will go at the worst for a 2nd. And, I dont even like that return but they are making room. They'll easily move him elsewhere then and you can sign Lars Eller, there is no Meier in free agency and/or trade.

What I was saying is that we were rumored to be in on Meier and Chychrun before they were traded. Those were the players we were interested in because they were young, good players. Neither Dvorak or Edmundson fit into the young good players category. The thing is we don't need a 3C and we certainly aren't going to pay a 1st to get one. We also don't need Edmundson because we are not looking to win either. Both those players don't fit our timeline at all. Also Scandella is only here for 1 more year so there is no need to dump him. We already added Kapanen and Vrana for next year. Both can be good players but they cost us little assets and on 1 year contracts after this season. IF they do well we can flip them for assets at next year TDL or extend them. Point is we are not trading our firsts unless it's for a younger player that is good.

I dont think you understand the value of an early 1st and a late 1st.

The reason Chychrun was traded to Ottawa was for the chance at a better 1st.

The 1st you are trading is a very late 1st from the Leafs. Stop grasping at straws. You are not getting Meier or Chychrun or anyone close to that level of player otherwise LA or Edmonton would have grabbed them.

You do realize we have 3 firsts in the draft. We offered 2 of them plus other assets for Meier/Chychrun. All I'm saying is that Dvorak and Edmundson do not fit the timeline of our team. I wouldn't trade anything of value for them because we have no need for them. You can trade them to other teams. Edmundson is 29 and only has 1 year left on his contract. That provides the blues no value to them because they are going to suck next year and will most likely not want to sign another 30 year old to a multi year contract. Dvorak is a 30-40 point player and we already have enough of those. He is also 27 and in his prime. IF we trade for him we are going to waste his prime years because our team as a whole sucks. If you want to trade Edmundson and Dvorak for a first go ahead but it will not be the blues because they don't fit our needs or timeline.
