there's no reason or need for Detroit to go after a middle aged Dman at the cost of a future 1st rd pick. even if they get MTLs 1st, i dont think they would do a 2nd for Petry straight up

MASSIVE over payment in the EDM deal

Agreed that it's a massive overpayment for Eberle, but it's a key element.

Petry for a second rounder and swap? Maybe the swap is enough. Petry is hardly middle-aged. Kronwall is 36, Ericsson is 34 and Green is 31. Petry is 29 and on a solid, manageable contract. He was worth a 2nd and a 4th when the Habs got him. He hasn't lost value. Indeed, he has hit a new career high.

There is a slight chance Vegas would take Plekanec, but Montoya has zero value for Vegas- lots of similar goalies available as free agents. If they draft a goalie- its because its a bonafide starter (Howard,Fleury) or a just eligible goalie that still has some upside.

I think you've undervalued Petry- with Beaulieu gone-this leaves Montreals defense extremely weak. Markov and Emelin have alot of miles on them, and you have 3 rookies on defense in your top 8. They need Petry, asking Markov and Emelin to stay healthy all year is a huge ask. Gallagher isnt going for Eberle, hes too soft- let somebody else try and get his game back.

Something's gotta give if the Habs are going to get more scoring. There's no point in having the world's best goalie and keeping Sergachev, Juulsen, Jerabek, Lernout waiting in the wings. Habs should use Weber and Markov to bring these kids along, even if it means a few rookie mistakes per game.

I think Eberle spent too many years playing for a loser. I believe a change of scenery will do Eberle a world of good. I love Gally, but Habs need people who can score from more than 5 feet out.

Disagree. For the money, Montoya is an easy plug-and-play option as a #2. Most unprotected goalies of any value have major cap hits. LV's grabbing Montoya for $1.1M means they have money to put toward a better D and perhaps an expensive UFA or two.
