Jeremy Swayman needs a new contract, too - and that's just the big names(Trent Frederic, Nick Foligno, Craig Smith, Connor Clifton, & Tomas Nosek will all need new contracts or replacements.) That $17.3M is eaten up pretty damn fast - and you're asking Boston to actually drop it to something like $14.6M by adding Kulak's contract to the ledger?

Gavrikov as a rental, with retention, is something they're obviously considering spending a 1st on. I'd argue that Kulak's remaining term puts him in a spot where Boston wouldn't take him for free.
