Description
Montreal needs a young goalie prospect. Why not the best in the league if a team and GM are consistently linked to a player we do not necessarily need long term. There are not many players like Anderson but I don't think is worth a first at 5.5M maybe 2M retained, but I know Hughes does not like to retain long term money.

Added second 2nd rounder to bring back Lucic for the rest of the season and a 4th to make the deal seem "fairer". Understood that Lucic has a limited NTC, obviously in this hypothetical situation he waived.

To be fair, I would trade a bag of pucks for Hoffman. He is a very good player within 50 foot of the opposing teams net.

Sorry but you would have to pay for any team to take Hoffman and that 2nd year of his contract...And expect no return.

He's part of the group thinking Andersons a cap dump like Lucic .
He's wrong , NHL Source's say he wrong , heck the GM in MTL confirms he's wrong.
But in some peoples minds being overpaid 1-1.5m is the end of the world and the same as Lucic being overpaid 4-.4.5m

If the NHL just did what the NBA does letting a team veto 1 contract a year from the cap then fans would settle down .
NBA cap is so much more complicated and not nearly as stressful to deal with as the NHL's largely for that reason.

JA is a cap dump, Not a single asset outside your stars and 1st could make Calgary remotely consider moving the best goalie prospect in the league

We'll see on Anderson

Outside Starters in their Prime like Hasek and Kuemper , Goalies traditionally dont get a huge haul Quality wise.
I mean you get Georgiev type deals that gives you a couple 3rd's and a 5th rounder
Maybe even a Bernier deal with a couple pending UFA's and a 2nd round pick

But really i think that's the ceiling on Wolf until he is in the NHL he's just another smaller goalie doing well in the AHL on a deep team.
In all reality i'd want Silavos from VAN over Wolf but if i was forced to pay top dollar or more then Askarov is the only one i do it for .
If we're talking reasonable exachange's then i'd be more open to Silavos or Wolf myself but thats just a personal opinion

Here's the problem with your examples, you named 2 players with 50+ NHL starts and multiple NHL seasons. The reason for that is goalie prospects are just simply almost never traded because if you get a good one you are set for years. Pretty sure Devon Levi is the only recent one traded and he was part of a package for some drastically better than JA.

As always, I beg of Habs fans to look at Calgary's cap situation and explain to me how they fit Josh Anderson's $5.5M AAV on their 2023-24 team without having to dump a significant contract

Yikes you guys are in a rough spot. Cap committed and 19/32 in the league. Have I got a player for Devils!

OR we throw in Carey Price and you guys have $10.5M in LTIR space for the next three seasons, equating to a free Huberdeau contract?

not a bad thought; i wonder if Price would want to be a career Canadien though and block that with his NMC. i'd also have that 2% concern he actually tries to make a comeback and now I have to figure out how to fit that whale of a contract on the books. but it's a creative solution for sure!

Anderson is overpaid 2.5-3 million x 5 years or 12.5-15 million
