1 - Because the Blues will get better offers, plus both are also having extension talks. Pretty simple.

2 - How is a constantly injured guy who's currently out for 5-6 months a ready player? He's both slow and small, which is not a good combo anyway. Robertson might one day be a decent 3rd liner if he stays in one piece, but again... better offers elsewhere.

Not even sure why retention is needed for Lafferty. You have a full 23 man roster and $1m in cap space. 3rd team retention could be problematic with the extra year on Lafferty's deal.
