I like JVR, and I read he can be had for a 3rd but I'm not too sure with half retention. Looks good.

It’s just unrealistic to think teams (unless they are so bad they don’t care about maximizing cap space) will retain for multiple years. So don’t see a fit with Wings (Perron) or Canucks (Garland) etc. these guys are on too big a cap hit - given their relative value and league wide cap squeeze - to be moved imo

Perron is worth at least a 1st by himself. So what are you paying for the year and a half of retention? Detroit declines.

laugh laugh Perron at 50% retention is worth a hell of a lot more than a 2024 1st round pick. You need to add another 2nd at least and the 1st needs to be your 2023 or no dice.

The Red Wings might prefer the 2024 pick because it could be higher. There is no guarantee the Leafs will be a top 5 team next year.

As for adding another pick, that's unlikely. If Perron were a rental he'd go for a 2nd plus a prospect. He only has value because he has an extra year on his contract. Getting a 1st for him is good business by Detroit.

All your posts are the same. Add a critique or something.

And, sometimes, the grass is greener.

JVR is nostalgia, he's slow, bad defensively and doesn't in any way fit the system Keefe uses. Brassard is old and likely wouldn't make the team because he's just not good enough anymore. And you can do a lot better than Perron for a 1st. It's just not worth it.

In the playoffs, in a game 7, systems go out the window, and that's where players have to come clutch. JVR is a clutch scorer. Brassard has been on teams that made playoff runs. Ditto for Perron. These guys have proven in their careers that they can score key goals. That's what the Leafs are lacking above all else. Timely goals.

There isn't a cup winning team that ever let's their system go out the window. That leads to losses in those games. If the leafs succeed in the playoffs it's because several things happen. They need the PP to be as dominant as it can be in the playoffs. The stars have to be stars and the bottom 6 need to win their minutes. Brassard isn't winning his minutes, neither is JVR. Perron may be a decent addition but I doubt yzerman moves him.

Not with 50 retention for the next 1.5 years. Perron is on pace for a 58 point season. He's worth more than a 2024 1st round pick. And i doubt the Leafs go from currently 26th overall to lower next season. Yzerman has already stated that he wants the 2023 picks in the deepest draft in about 18 years or so.

JVR for that package is way more realistic (an over pay) than TK and that combination that has been talked about on here.
