Dear God....

Leafs were given Murray with retention AND a high in the round 3rd just to get rid of him, here you drop him into an already one sided deal, hoping no one notices or that suddenly he has value? Knies, Sandin, a 1st and a 2nd is probably the overpayment Chyrchrun will get, but they add 2 valuable pieces while you add hugely negative pieces? Murray has put up nice stats, but hes Mrazek Mach Two, an often injured 4.6mil backup goalie with 2 yrs left, why would he become a positive asset, and Kerfoot is a cap dump to ARZ.

ROR at 50% for a cap dump and a 1st TWO drafts away? STL hangs up

Schenn is probably worth OTT 3rd a just a tad more, but why would they wsant Holl?

Again its just throwing expiring UFAs to teams that dont want them and they are effectively cap dumps to the receivers without any compansation. Good players = sure, but as expiring UFAs to make the cap work for TOR, they are cap dumps to non contending teams.

No, he's not. They would be giving up a 3rd and Holl for a few hits,

Murray is negative value, no question. I'd argue Kerfoot is not negative value. if ARZ was to retain on him they could absolutely flip for a 2nd rounder and/or decent prospect. He is a versatile player (can play all positions) and can move up and down the lineup. If he was making 2 million, he wouldn't even be considered as a player the leafs wanted to move, I'm still not convinced they even want to move him at 3.5 as it is

You are correct, but then you'd have to make this deal very soon, as you'd want to get kerfoot on the market sooner (and you are correct, he does have value with retention to a contender, but more often than not, most leaf fans dont take into account the non-existant market of value for a 3.5mil kerfoot, so they pawn him off and make their trade partner do the leg work)

I just dont think this trade goes through until the TDL, and then you have a limited window (and limited buyers) to move kerfoot for value.

Fortunately, Dubas has a history of completing his work early. We've also overlooked the value of a young, cost controlled, HOMETOWN power forward coming to Arizona. Im surprised Gary Betman himself hasnt forced this trade through just on that merit

Tank 50% + Mikkola just went for a cap dump and late first.

The mediocre return for an extended Horvat set the buyers market.

Engvall + 1st now seems like an overpayment.

I acknowledge the outlandishness of the Arizona trade lmao.

Tank and a 6th/7th dman, both playing just above average, 2 UFAs went for a 1st, 3rd, and a midlevel prospect. The younger Horvat, having an unusual career year, was dealt as an unsigned UFA and went for a youngish middle 6 winger, a 1st, and 3rd, so as a not extended UFA, who performs at a 5.5mil Koneckny range, he's not worth his new contract, but its a fair deal for both.

So Engvall and a late round 1st TWO drafts away seem like overpayment? Wow, Engvall is a cap dump but the 1st is not comparable to either of the examples so far. ROR is not having a good year, but a late round 1st in either 2023 or 2024 AND another piece (a 3rd in 2023 or a upper midlevel prospect), is probably an average offer, engvall is a negative commodity, so a 1st TWO drafts away and engvall is probably less than a 2023 2nd. Its an under offer for a player in demand. Toronto will be begging for scraps by the TDL if all these guys get traded early or if they offer these bargain basement trades.

Toronto is more likely to wind up paying market value/above market value for a Laughton, Garland, JVR, Schenn than a high ticket guy
