Him being a rental for Calgary simply because we cant afford to qualify him does not lower his value as a pending RFA. Ottawa is way better off holding on to him to try and re-sign or wait until they are the only team that can offer him and 8 year deal and do the same the Flames did with Tkachuk

Flames should only part with a 1st for either Meier, Forsberg or Bratt with long-term extensions of no more than $8-9mil/yr, even if it means parting with Zary, Coronato or Pelletier as well. Toffoli is already producing what Mini-Mighty DeBrincat is for far less.

That 2nd could be used to acquire much younger guys with term, like SJ's Barabanov, FLA's Duclair (send Kylington instead) or VAN's Boeser with $1mil/yr+ Retention.

Flames should only consider guys like JVR, Drouin, Hoffman of Dadonov if they come for very little = IOW on an amazing deal

Still need a Better 4C (Noel Acciari, Sam Lafferty, Jeff Carter) and a Big Gritty Shut Down + PK LD or RD Upgrade over Stone after that

Gotta do/try something, but no sense in giving up good assets for rentals.

    JVR (33-34/$3.4mil x 1 year) 8G+13A=21PTS/32GP = 0.66PPG vs. Barabanov (26/$2.5mil x 2 years) 7G+25A=32PTS/47GP = 0.68PPG

Toffoli & Lindholm could use a Fast Left Shot Two-Way RW Playmaker, not an Old & Slow JVR. Even Jonathan Drouin would be a Better & Cheaper Pick Up and Gamble than JVR imo. Drouin (27 going on 28) has always been a Great Passer and Plays Well in the Playoffs. A change of scenery and being in the same Locker Room as his Buddy Huberdeau might help him.

Two other guys already familiar and previously successful with Huberdeau are Mike Hoffman and Evgeni Dadonov who both scare me, but would come at a much cheaper acquisition cost, so would be far less of a gamble than JVR.

    Where are Sens fans? lol

    No one is objecting here?

Sens are not interested in that deal, at all

The only way they trade DeBrincat to the Flames is if Andersson is involved.

I'd say Tanev too but 33 y/o and long history injury, not ideal for Ottawa
