Why would Yzerman retain next season on the younger Vrana to acquire the older Dumoulin? Edvinsson will be on the team next season.

Detroit passes, We're not retaining close to 50% on Vrana for the next 1.5 years for a pending UFA in Dumoulin.

I saw a report saying that Vrana has most likely played his last game for the big club. The next move will either be a trade or a buyout. If you buyout, it will be $1.4M for 23-24 and $1.9M for 24-25. A trade will just be $2.25M for 23-24, so you save about $2M for the season I think you guys will really be pushing. Dumoulin is a short-term return that can be used however you like. He can just be a depth piece and maybe re-signed over someone like Maatta, or you just let him walk, or you even deal him to another team.
Regardless, it is more about the money making sense for you guys.

This so called report is from a non source. I used to really like Dumoulin. But he's breaking down now. Too many hard miles. Red Wings aren't buyers. Cap space isn't a problem for Detroit.

Canucks pass. Boeser is looking better and is on pace for 60pts. He's not even at his best and he's still producing. Kapanen and Blueger suck.

I think there are better players than Boeser and Vrana we can target. Ideally any player(s) we get need to have an element of physicality as well IMO.

I'd rather just keep Vrana than retaining on him for a year and a half and only getting a 4th in 2024. It makes sense for Pittsburgh and not Detroit. If Vrana returns to his scoring form there's no reason to trade him unless the offer is worth it.
