Description
I'm just messing around visualizing some trades I've though of. I think this is what a deal with Chicago will end up looking like, a first plus some prospects for McCabe and Lafferty and a third going the other way to take Kerfoot too. I don't think Horvat is going to end up with the Islanders long term, I think when they realize that they might miss the playoffs they try to flip him for more assets so this trade could really happen with any team.

In what world is McCabe and Lafferty worth this much? Neither have ever done anything to warrant this sort of return. This site is broken.

Hawks absolutely say yes. It's quite frankly too much. McCabe 50% retained isn't nothing, but this is a lot.

Side question...looking back today with 20/20 hindsight. Do you think the TDL deal last year leaked of Hagel for Mrazek, Knies, and (2) 1sts should have been done? 41 points in 48 games...3 playoff runs and then Hagel as an RFA.

I wouldn't have done that and Hagel is much better than Lafferty and McCabe.

The two picks are probably enough to get this deal done. If Hawks need to take Kerfoot for cap purposes, maybe add a 2024 4th? Or he could be traded elsewhere if Leafs feel he has positive value.

Hawks accept, but this is decently close to fair value imo. Mcabe w/o retention should get a 1st on his own, so with 50% retention (for 3 years!) he should bring in a haul. Lafferty is going to be a guy that brings in a much higher return than people think he will if he gets moved. Some of the big reporters like Serivelli are even starting report this. Hawks might be able to get a 2nd from a playoff team for Lafferty alone.

Value leans CHI's way but not by a ton I don't think. Depends how you value Kerfoot and Robertson though. Kerfott really isn't worth anything to CHI without flipping him and Robertson can't stay healthy

It really all depends on how each GM views those prospects. You're looking at Robertson from the Hawks point of view...which is all fine and good. I doubt Kyle Dubas is willing to sell that low on Robertson. There's a lot of risk on Dubas's side because Robertson does have production on his resume. But he also does indeed have those injuries. All put together...It feels like one of those lose/lose situations. Robertson means more to the Leafs than to any other fan base.

To me Fraser Minten is still a complete unknown. He's the #3C on a team that's going ALL IN trying to win the WHL this year trading away (4) 1st round picks for Zellweger/Hofer. He's played some #1LW with Stank, but the question is still...Is Minten's production because he's really good? Or is in because he's simply not the focus of the opponent? Logan Stankoven is the main focal point. This to me is another prospect that means more to TOR than to an acquiring team.

Let's take the counter argument. Frank Nazar. He's been hurt all year. Do you think another team would trade the #14 OA pick straight up for Nazar? It's all hypothetical, but I don't think another team would take that chance.

I wasn't sure if Robertson's value has lowered too much because of his injury history, especially because he just had a major shoulder injury which could tank his production so I figured another prospect was needed. Knies is supposedly an untouchable and I wouldn't want to move Niemela so it was either Hirvonen or Minten and I think Hirvonen is the player with more potential so Minten gets moved.

You are giving up a 1st a 3rd and 3 players with more value than a 26 year old bubble player from the worst team in the league and a defenceman who's just not very good. The whole package is an insane overpay. The original report on McCabe from Seravelli said the asking price for McCabe is a 2nd and maybe a lesser prospect at his full contract and a 1st if he was half retained. You are giving up 2 top prospects, a 1st, a 3rd and Kerfoot.

On top of that Friedman already said TO has no interest in paying that price. And who the hell is Lafferty anyways? A worse version of ZAR? But not as good defensively? Wasteful
