Someone who peaked offensively and will never hit those numbers again on a terrible long term deal, who is also useless defensively, and an oft injured winger who is either good or straight trash defensively depending on the season, for a first in a deep draft and the Canes perfect long term 3C, Canes will easily pass. They didn’t want Miller before he signed that albatross of a contract, they want him even less with that extension. Absolutely nobody is going to pay for Miller, and the Canucks will have to live with their screw up.

Boeser is likely to get moved, to where, no clue, but more than likely not Carolina. It’s not in their style to replace one oft injured winger with another. Miller is straight up unmovable, and nobody is going to be stupid enough to pay for him. Sure he hit 99 points, but that can be chalked up to him over performing in a contract eligible year. If the Canes were even remotely interested in Miller, a trade would have happened last deadline. And now that he has that extension, Vancouver isn’t going to be willing to pay the price it would require to even get teams to consider taking him on.

Gee I can just hear the rocks rolling around. You don’t seem to understand. While the Canes could use a 2C, Miller would be at the very bottom of their list. A terrible contract for someone who refuses to have any defensive responsibility, the Canes won’t make that trade. Cause if you haven’t noticed, all of the Canes C this year, (Aho, KK, Stastny, Staal, Necas, Stepan, and even Drury) are all at the very least above average defensively. Making a move for Miller, who is a terrible fit in a defensive system, would be a very big waste of assets. The only way Miller ever plays in a Carolina jersey, is if Vancouver eats half of his new salary, and their 2023 first is attached to him. And we both know that isn’t happening.

The canes don’t put value on players signed into their mid/late 30s so that probably rules jt out. He also doesn’t fit Brind’Amours system well because he doesn’t have great forechecking or defense.

They got him for a very cheap price in trade and the sharks retained salary. Look at Niederriter, Trocheck, and Hamilton for how they value aging players.

At least Miller's offensive baseline is way higher than KK's offensive ceiling

No shot you know so little about hockey that you think Vancouver has to retain half of miller and add a 1st to move him. Sure he has had some bad moments this year but every single team in the league would still love to have him

Yet no team would be willing to waste 8mil on Miller. Most of the league is either already a cap team, is rebuilding, or if they have cap space, their cap structure for the future would block an attempt. The Canes fit in both the first and third categories here. No team is going to pay for Miller. So the Canucks could sell the entirety of their future to dump him on a rebuilding team that has cap space (all 56mil), or they eat half and pay a pretty penny or 2 and only owe him a total of 28mil over the course of 7 years. As it stands, his contract is unmovable and is also buyout proof, so the Canucks are stuck with his contract. Paying a first and eat half his salary would actually make his contract moveable.

This isn’t all about Miller’s play. It’s more about what teams would even be able to take on the extra cap, and what teams would be willing to. The interest would be quite limited to rebuilding teams trying to make a quick few bucks. But I must know nothing about hockey and how the cap would kill almost any Miller trade.
