Dear god, no. EDM should sprint as far away from that Kane trade as possible.

Chicago wants a first, a high prospect at least and a forward in return. Imo fair. Maybe get rid of that other prospect but keep Holloway

I'm sure that's what they want, but I'm firmly of the mind that EDM shouldn't pay that. While removing Schaefer helps the idea look better, I don't think Kane is what EDM needs to add and therefore would still refuse.

I don’t think it’s fair. Kane hasn’t been overly amazing this season. Not leading the team in points, has relied pretty heavy on the PP and his defensive game gets worse and worse every year.

Outside of making Oilers PP1 even more dangerous I just don’t see him as a good fit, for a team that struggles defensively I would see Toews as a more intriguing player, would slot in very nicely as C3 and can take on lots of PK duties and the toughest match-ups.


Nuge/Toews/McLeod would make a solid shutdown 3rd line.


Another thing with Kane is he would take away time from Nuge who has been relying aswell pretty hard on the PP1 and also with E Kane returning it will just log jam that PP1 even more.

Hyman/ Nuge having career years do you really want to bump them down for Kane when there really is no need

You have Edmonton paying a 1st, two very recent 1st round draft picks plus Puljujarvi to rent Kane for a few months? That's just insane. Not even considering how Kane's 5v5 stats have been among the worst in the NHL this season.

The Kane trade is definitely an overpay, and the McCabe trade is definitely an underpay. First off, McCabe has a 7 team NTC and supposedly all of the Canadian teams except Toronto are on it. So doubtful he waives for Edmonton anyway.

But if he does decide to waive, and if Kaner agrees to waive for Edmonton, make it Kane and McCabe w/ retention for 2023 and 2024 1st's, Pool Party, Murray and one of Bourgault, Schaffer or the 2023 2nd.

That's still a massive overpay for a rental Kane (who has been TERRIBLE this season) and a 2nd / 3rd pairing defenseman.

Easy pass.
