First off, probably a bit of an overpay.
Secondly, just why? Bruins already have the best top four in the league. You’re moving heaven and earth to take mcavoys D partner, and stick him out of position on the third pair and knock clifton out of the lineup. It just seems like making a huge move for the sake of making a huge move.
For what it’s worth, from a statistical standpoint, mcavoy and grzelcyk have been the best d pair in the NHL over the last three seasons. I’m not sure I’d completely buy into that, but it’s a really good pair.
