A man can dream Timo Meier

Description
With Horvat our of the way, and NHL execs suggesting that a Horvat return is better/more realistic then Grier’s “first, plus (1A or 2B prospects) OR a (good prospect and established young player). Nevertheless, I present something Detroit could do that matches Grier’s ask. I would of course prefer a 24 first going the sharks way though.

I doubt we are buyers at the deadline but we need elite forward talent and a man can dream. Timo is 2 months younger then Larkin and could certainly push help push us into playoffs next year alongside Marco, Ed, and Elmer (and hopefully a healthy Vrana (and or Bert.... trade/contract situation pending)

Détails additionnels:
Pick is top 5 protected. Mazur and Buium are solid, well performing B prospects. Fabbri (or kubalik alternatively) fit the bill as a young but established nhl player with some term the sharks could go on to recoup more assets with.

Detroit has a glut of top4 LHD potential B prospects in their system and it makes sense to move one, and Buium is a solid, big skating defensemen who has a handle to be a top4 in the nhl. Mazur is a serious Hobey Baker nominee with top six ceiling but certainly at this trajectory should fit into any teams top 9.

I like it. I'm good with that price. I don't know if SJ would be, but it does fit the 1st + 2nd (Buium) + 3rd (Mazur) + young-ish roster player mold.

I like moving Fabbri here, as it clears his cap so we can reasonably take on Meier's.

Pick yeah, young dudes sure, they cannot possibly entertain taking Fabbri on 2 busted knees. I think it may be a younger guy like Veleno or Ras or even Zadina that's more appealing to them.

They will get plenty of better offers lol. This pick would need to be like 6th OVR

I think you overestimate the state of

1) teams able to pay Meier
2) teams with decently high picks in this draft that would move them for Meier
3) teams with the prospects to make the trade ala Detroit.

But to each their own. This exceeds what Grier is reportedly asking for as it includes both the prospects and a player.

Neither Mazur or Buium are highly touted. Mazur is close to a B prospect as hes not even a PPG as a DY+2 and Buium is a C prospect. Fabbri is very replaceable so the first is the only real asset of value imo

Dude you need to chill a little, Give us a break Mazur had 38 points in 41 games at the University of Denver last season. And has 23 points in 27 games this season. That's pretty much as close to a PPG as you can get. A lot of college kids who have had a PPG in college have failed at the NHL level it means nothing. It's a solid offer. If both Devils and Sabres offer their 1sts Detroit will beat them as Detroit's is definitely the lower of all 3 teams.

This isn't even close for Meier.

Mazur and Buium are dime-a-dozen prospects. Meier is going to cost an actual A prospect, at least (Edvinsson/Kasper/etc).

And who is paying that price? There are literally only like 4 teams that would trade for him at TDL (without ruining their lottery odds) that have prospects to give and can also fit Meier's cap hit going forward: CAR, DET, NJ, BUF. Which of them are giving an Edvinsson/Kasper level player plus more?

That's kinda irrelevant, no?

Point is THIS trade above is nowhere close, and SJ would never trade him for a return like that.

How is it irrelevant? They trade him for what they're offered or they lose him for nothing. I can't imagine he resigns if he wants a Cup.

Why are they losing him for nothing? He's an RFA. He is in no control of his situation.

They will absolutely not trade him for what they're offered if it's something like this (i.e. well under his value).

If they sign him without trading him, they continue to be an irrelevant team for even longer, as he will help to ensure they do not get a top 3 pick in the drafts, but they won't be good enough to make playoffs.

You're missing the point. SJ is in no rush to trade and will not be trading him for less than he's worth.

The trade above is not even close.

Heck, even a team like TOR who could use him purely as a rental for this year could offer more than that. If we want Meier, we would have to give up serious assets to acquire him.

Maybe a bad example, but Toronto cannot and would not match that for a rental. For them to match the pick alone (#6-15 vs 25-31) they would have to give up a pretty significant piece, let alone also matching the other pieces.

They would easily match that - they'd give up a 1st and Sandin or another legit piece/prospect.

Fabbri is a middle 6er, Mazur and Buium are basically worthless.

Not sure why I'm still replying, but TOR will not be giving up Sandin, if he's that good of a piece, for a rental. And, if they give him up because he's *not* that good of a piece, then, well, you're wrong lol.

Sandin + 27oa is probably less intriguing than Fabbri + 12oa, let alone the prospects.

Both Mazur and Buium are solid B-prospects with potential futures in the top 6 & 4, respectively.
