The Horvat trade set the market, cost for a healthy Monahan will be a 1st + 3rd in terms of value.

1- Monahan is hurt & not worth a 2nd

2- makes much more sense to target our resources towards someone who is actually good- like Meier, for example

You have the cap space to get both - Monahan is going to be healthy before the deadline and is well worth a 2nd at 1/2 retained.

You just mentioned 3 role players who basically are never all in the lineup at the same time. Monahan isn't worth a 2nd to replace one of those 3. Jost has been really good in his 3c role and girgensons has been very good on the 4th line. Asplund is having an interesting season after getting selke votes last year. So Monahan really wouldn't be an upgrade.

He really isn't and retaining means nothing for the sabres

6 months ago the Habs were paid a 1st rounder to take Monahan when I am sure the Flames shopped him to every team in the league for cheap trying to give him away for Freddie Charles without having to pay and no one bit. He has played 25 games since, not going to happen.

Monahan has played well and his injury was a broken foot not anything concerning like his hip being re-injured. He was on a great pace before the injury and he is almost the same age as Horvat. Yes Horvat is the better player that's why the Canucks got Raty in the deal as well, but with half retention that also helps increase Monahan's value. Who else is available on the market any way? ROR, maybe but he will cost teams a fortune. Other than that there is not much available for center's. A 1st + 3rd will be the going rate MMW.

What part of what I said was wrong? Reports are that Monahan was seen in an air cast and he had a broken foot. There aren't many center's available outside Monahan and ROR (Larkin is a pipe dream as he will resign) and ROR is going to cost way more than Horvat did. So what other 2nd line center do you "think" is available?
